Summary:
The Manager, in collaboration with the Administrative Director, is responsible for the overall operation of the Radiation Center. The Manager has 24-hour accountability for all patient care activities and staff who work under his/her direction. This individual is responsible for overseeing the department’s strategic plan, operating budget, and to ensure coding and insurance billing requirements are being met. The role of the Radiation Oncology Manager is to facilitate all aspects of the hiring process, providing corrective action, formal employee evaluations, and payroll.
The Radiation Oncology Manager demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.
Responsibilities:
- Addresses the needs and dissatisfiers in areas of the Radiation Center as appropriate and participates in implementing plans to improve satisfaction.
- Participates in the interview and hiring process of new employees.
- Participates in various personnel actions including but not limited to annual performance appraisals, corrective actions, and employee recognition.
- Responsible for appropriate scheduling and utilization of staff, tracking vacation/sick days, and completing payroll in Lawson (Shift Maker, Time Off Planner, and Time Review, On Call Schedule).
- Collaboratively formulates and provides ongoing re-assessment of departmental budgets, financial performance including net income, projects volume/activity, controls expenses, productivity, Action O-I, care and maintenance of unit inventory, equipment, and supplies.
- Comply with regulatory standards and preparation of HFAP site visits.
- Demonstrates leadership in initiating and managing change, adopting new methods, willingness to see beyond and across department silos and effective participation on assigned leadership initiatives/committees.
- This individual maintains competency to assist on an episodic basis in times of high census, as a consult to staff, or in response to emergency situations.
- Maintains professional development through seminars, workshops, in-service activities, and current professional literature.
- Monitors changes from accrediting governing bodies and updates departmental policies and procedures as appropriate.
- Develops and implements a supportive environment that energizes staff to enhance the delivery of safe quality patient care.
- Coaches, mentors, encourages, and motivates employees to work together as an effective team.
- Collaboratively formulates and provides ongoing assessment of departmental budgets including patient volumes, expenses, gross margin, and productivity levels.
- Responsible for charge master and all revenue cycle management activities including authorizations, coding, billing, and insurance billing requirements.
- Serve as a resource to technical staff on radiation technical issues related to equipment and patient care issues.
- Works collaboratively with Administrative Director to develop a highly effective strategic marketing plan that promotes the radiation oncology center as the regional experts in radiation oncology care.
- Works collaboratively with the Oncology Research Program in the coordination of patient clinical trials and associated activities.
- Accountable for patient care documentation is complete and accurate in accordance with hospital and department policies and procedures.
- Accountable for required unit records, reports and statistics, regulatory logs, unit and organizations policy and procedures, quality monitoring, safety, environmental and infection control measures and holds staff accountable to established requirements.
- Coordinate training and ongoing staff education activities (CEU, CME).
- Builds effective working relationships with management, physicians, staff and other partners fostering a spirit of teamwork.
- Works collaboratively with physicians and other service providers for desired quality, fiscal and service outcomes.
- Monitors and ensures patient and employee safety and satisfaction.
- Comply with regulatory standards and preparation of ACR site visits.
- Serves as a resource to technical staff on radiation technical issues related to equipment and patient care issues.
- Responsible for providing a billing review at the end of each month.
- Coordinate vendor visits as needed by the department.
- Attends leadership meetings as requested by the Administrative Director.
- Works collaboratively with leadership in the coordination of quality improvement activities to for process improvements they may lead to departmental changes.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Administrative Director.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health Administration or Health/Business Related Field or obtain within three years of hire
- BLS Certification
- Minimum of 5-years experience in a radiation oncology department
- Registered Radiologic Technologist or Dosimetrist
- Knowledge of EPIC and Mosaiq programs
