Allegan General Hospital seeks a Relief Nursing House Supervisor to work on an "as needed" basis in Nursing, for day or overnight shifts.
Job Duties Include, but may not be limited to:
-Acts in a leadership capacity in overseeing safe, effective, quality patient care.
-Maintains patient census according to Critical Access Hospital criteria.
-In the absence of Case Management staff, evaluates patients for the appropriateness and medical necessity of admissions, the clinical necessity of continued stay, the appropriateness of resource utilization for individual patients, and the timeliness of support services provided by the hospital.
-Works proactively and collaboratively with Hospitalist on duty to problem-solve in the facilitation of effective and efficient patient throughput.
-Serves as clinical nursing resource and mentor to nursing staff and new orientees.
-Acts as liaison with other departments, physicians, and staff to ensure that the Organization operates smoothly.
-Releases appropriate information to the media in the absence of Community Relations representative.
-Coordinates activity of emergency situations in the absence of key individuals who otherwise would facilitate the activity.
-Coordinates all Code Blue incidents, acting in position #5, and restocks the crash cart.
-Adjusts shift by shift staffing of nursing units, based on acuity, census, and staff level of expertise.
-Completes designated clerical requirements (forms, software entry) related to staffing and scheduling.
-Approves variations in staffing such as low census and overtime.
-Dispenses medications from medication dispensing machines, or the night cabinet, in the absence of the Pharmacist, acting as a second resource to assure the safety of the patient.
-Participates in performance evaluation of staff.
-Conducts disciplinary actions as necessary in compliance with hospital Human Resource policies.
-Works within guidelines and policies of both MNA & SEIU Association contracts and AGH Personnel Policy Manual.
Periodic Job Duties:
-Participates in development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of patient care.
-Assists in the selection and interviewing process of applicants when necessary.
-Provides direct patient care as needed, including documentation of patient care, and patient and family education.
-Administers medications and treatments as prescribed within scope of nursing license, accurately addressing the "seven rights"
Qualifications Include, but may not be limited to:
-Current Michigan RN Licensure
-Associates degree in Nursing required, Bachelor's degree preferred
-Demonstrated clinical competence as a staff nurse in an acute care hospital setting for a minimum of 2 years.
-Recent hospital experience (within past 2 years).
-Basic Life Support (BLS)
-Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 6-12 months
-Crisis Prevention Intervention required within 6-12 months
-Neonatal Resuscitation Program required within 6-12 months
-Proficiency in using information systems; computer, fax, copier, multi-line phones
-Effective verbal, written, and listening skills.
-Effective organizational/priority setting skills.
-Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, patients, visitors, medical staff and hospital staff.
-Ability to be an effective team member, offering input, willingness to trust the skills and expertise of other team members, share in group decision making, and refer them to appropriate sources of help if indicated.
-Effective conflict management, problem solving and team building skills.
-Balanced, level-headed approach when faced with emergency situations.
-Ability to assess patients physical, psychosocial, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs
-Ability to identify alleged or suspected victims of abuse or neglect through the assessment of the patient, with follow through by adherence to State and Federal regulations.
