Director of Nursing, Sanctuary at McAuley

Working closely with a multidisciplinary team of skilled health professionals, our rehab guests receive rehabilitation care in our new 3400 sq. ft. therapy gym featuring state-of-the-art equipment. All while experiencing endless hospitality as they heal and renew in a caring environment.

POSITION PURPOSE
Provides clinical and administrative leadership planning, organizing, directing, monitoring and evaluating safe, superior and quality resident care to ensure the advancement of clinical practice and resident care that is consistent with the directives of Trinity Senior Living Communities.Develops, implements, and manages ongoing measurement, action planning, and evaluation methods related to all dimensions of performance inclusive of budget, productivity, culture of safety, associate engagement, resident satisfaction, physician satisfaction, and clinical outcome targets for the areas of responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Mission, Vision, Values and Guiding Behaviors of Trinity Health and Trinity Senior Living Communities in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
2.Consistently demonstrates (leads by example) Sanctuary Values to all internal and external customers (residents, visitors, volunteers, vendors, and associates.) Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, propagating a calm environment throughout the community. Actively participates / intervenes with direct care as needed and as a role model in ongoing Sanctuary Training of associate.
3.Maintains a working knowledge of Trinity Health Organizational Integrity Programs, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
4.Executes assignments in a culture that is shared and collaborative across all divisions within TSLC.
5.Develops and implements plans, including education and required competencies that ensure staffing for safe high quality resident care.
6.Assists the Education Director in developing, implementing, and conducting in-service training programs that relate to the nursing service department. Ensures that continuing education requirements for Community licensure and certification are maintained.
7.Maintains an effective culture of safety and accident prevention program; ensures that community associate follow established ergonomics policies and procedures that include but are not limited to TSLC's no lift, gait belts, etc.
8.Works in conjunction with Organizational Talent and Effectiveness in the recruitment, retention, development, succession planning for and engagement of quality resident care associates within the assigned nursing services department. Promotes an environment of shared leadership and decision-making.
9.Determines departmental staffing requirements and assist in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of associate for the Community or Department.
10.Monitors nursing services department work hours (including vacation and holiday schedules), associate, work assignments, etc., to ensure proper workflow and adequate staffing levels in compliance with state minimum regulations and sanctuary budgeted PPD hours.
11.Evaluates, develops, mentors, coaches, counsels and disciplines nursing services department associates. Supports community associates from other departments through coaching and mentoring to help achieve optimum standard of excellence. Addresses issues of concern through courageous conversation and notifies department manager of any interactions requiring attention.
12.Participates in evaluating and integrating health care technology and information systems that support resident care including the consistent and uniform application of TSLC's electronic medical records (EMR).
13.Collaborates, facilitates, and directs the implementation of effective evidence-based programs and multi-level projects to measure, analyze and continuously improve the safety and quality of resident care in the assigned clinical department or service line.
14.Develops, implements, and maintains an on-going Mission Driven Quality Improvement program (MDQI) for the nursing services department.
15.Maintains departmental procedures that support the necessary operational functions for the nursing services department.
16.Oversees the nursing services department budget; provides place orders for equipment and supplies as necessary.
17.Assures Survey readiness for the nursing services department through the use of action plan(s) which include(s) audit tools, rounds, and documentation review.
18.Oversees and/or assists in the development and use of preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nursing needs of each resident. Review resident's interdisciplinary plan of care which includes medical and nursing treatments to ensure that they are provided in accordance with the resident's wishes.
19.Ensures that all nursing associates are in compliance with their respective job descriptions. Meet with the nursing associates, as well as support associates in planning the nursing services department's services. Monitors that all nursing services departmental associates follow established policies and procedures, including dress code.
20.Attends and actively participates in various committees within community (i.e. Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Budget, MDQI, etc) as designated by the Administrator and implements recommendations from established committees as needed. Assists in preparing written and/or oral reports of the nursing service programs and activities to submit to such committees.
21.Responds to emergency situations, gathers data pertinent to emergencies, takes appropriate action, and notifies appropriate parties. Ensures that all nursing associates participate in fire safety and disaster preparedness drills and follows established infection control procedures.
22.Ensures that nursing services department work areas are maintained in a clean, sanitary and safe manner.
23.Ensures adequate stock of medications, medical supplies, equipment, etc., is maintained on premises at all times to adequately meet the needs of the residents. Monitors nursing procedures to ensure that nursing service supplies are used in an efficient manner to avoid waste.
24.Monitors that associates are using nursing equipment properly. Participates in the implementation of the procedures for the safe operation of all nursing equipment.
25.Must function independently, make independent decisions, demonstrates flexibility, personal integrity and ability to work effectively with residents and associates.
26.Reports occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the community policies and procedures.
27.Maintains written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing services department.
28.Participates in regularly scheduled reviews of the discharge plans as necessary and make such plans available to the Interdisciplinary Team.
29.Ensures that all student programs (nurse and/or nurse aide trainees, etc) are under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
30.Ensures that appropriate adverse associate actions relative to nursing associate are reported to the Administrator/Executive Director for reporting
