The Fair Housing Center, a division of Legal Services of Eastern Michigan, is looking for testers in Saginaw, Bay, Midland, and Genesee Counties to help investigate violations of fair housing laws.
The Fair Housing Center (FHC) of Eastern Michigan is part of Legal Services of Eastern Michigan, a nonprofit, tax exempt, organization with a mission to ensure equal housing opportunities for all people, no matter their race, sex, age, color, religion, national origin, familial status, marital status disabled or LGBTQ status.
The FHC is always seeking more “TESTERS”. A “Tester” is a trained person who visits an apartment complex, a management company, or a real estate company portraying a home seeker. A second “Tester”, from a protected class, visits the same establishment on the same day. The “Testers” write a report and the FHC staff conducts a comparison study to discover if there are any differences in treatment.
Housing discrimination is generally disguised, so many times people do not realize that they are being violated. You can help people recognize the possibility of discrimination and tell them where to go for help. People cannot be denied housing because of race, sex, age, color, religion, national origin, familial status, marital status disabled or LGBTQ status.
Pay
Each completed assignment will be paid $50 for onsite visits and $15 for phone call assignments with 58.5 cents a mile for travel.
Who can Apply
African Americans, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, Asian, gay, lesbian, transgender, white, and disabled. We currently need a variety of testers to send on assignments in different counties.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check, have reliable transportation, detailed writing skills, and reside in Bay, Saginaw, Flint, Midland or Saginaw Counties.
