Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer, Mechanical with current licensure in Minnesota or ability to immediately obtain MN license. The candidate must be a graduate of an ABET accredited engineering program and have a minimum of ten years of directly related work experience. We are looking for experience in industrial mechanical process and infrastructure design in support of new facility layout, existing facility expansions and process line additions. The successful candidate will have experience in both process and utility mechanical engineering (steam/condensate, water treatment, cooling water, compressed air, natural gas), process and utility piping design, process and facility plumbing systems (drains, potable water, safety showers), refrigeration, and facility HVAC. Experience should include diverse projects such as food processing facilities, oilseed processing and extraction, bio-fuels processing utilities, other hazardous area production facilities as well as general manufacturing/processing facilities.
Your Key Responsibilities
Prepares studies, specifications, proposals, and engineering estimates.
Serves as detailed design lead of mechanical systems for industrial facilities including systems listed above.
Provides scope, drawings, and specifications in a package to enable mechanical purchase inquiries to be issued for procurement of materials or for contractor construction and installation bidding.
Supervises engineers and technicians on assigned work. As a registered professional engineer, seal and sign required documentation produced by you and your team.
Coordinates projects with other disciplines and construction trades in accordance with approved scope of project.
Directs technical services personnel in the proper execution of drawings for mechanical systems. Examines mechanical drawings for completeness, detail, and accuracy as a peer reviewer. Checks manufacturers' prints and coordinates between these and utility engineering drawings.
Ability to deploy knowledge of the discipline-specific methods, practices and techniques required to engineer, design and construct industrial process and manufacturing projects.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Basic understanding of project management, cost estimating and being accountable for budgets.
Must be able to meet deadlines and put in the time needed to get the job done.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills to ensure accurate information exchange, internally with team members, as well as externally with subcontractors and clients.
Must have familiarity with navigating state and local mechanical building codes as well as understanding of NFPA, ASHRAE and other mechanical codes.
Must possess strong analytical abilities to visualize, articulate, and conceptualize complex problems and formulate a plan of action.
Must exhibit excellent organizational practices to ensure the scope, schedule, and budget of both internal and external projects are met.
Ideal candidate will take the initiative to learn about the company and participate in continuing education opportunities to add value to their position as well as the team.
Able to travel regionally, conduct short overnight trips, or other.
Able to drive a motor vehicle, traverse hot/cold environments with sometimes varying terrain, use stationary ladders and steps at client facilities, wear/use personal protective equipment, and manage minimal lifting.
Education and Experience
4-year Mechanical Engineering degree (minimum) from an ABET-accredited institution.
Current Minnesota Professional Engineering license in Mechanical Engineering in good standing or eligible to immediately obtain a MN PE license. Additional state or Canadian province ME licensure is a plus
10-15 years of experience in the mechanical disciplines described above plus project management. Additional years of directly related experience will be considered for commensurate compensation.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Indoor (Office Environment) Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting. Noise level varies but generally at levels of conversation. Majority of time spent using a computer/laptop at a workstation and related office equipment. Time spent carrying, reaching, lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling up to 9 kilograms / 20 pounds Occasional - 1-33% of shift. Subject to extended periods of sitting; may be required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk short to moderate distances to perform work. Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment if needed.
