We have created the SmithGroup Internship Programto support and mentor students from the architectural engineering program. The program's mission is to provide these students with the opportunity to attain their professional goals while advancing the architecture/engineering/construction (AEC) industry and improving the built environment. TheDetroit, MIoffice is looking for an Electrical Engineering Intern.
Selected students will spend approximately 12 weeks working as an intern in ourDetroit, MIoffice.Students will be exposed to both the creative and business environments.Assignments will vary and include project research, site visits, computer production, design reviews, and assisting in marketing efforts.It is expected that candidates have basic hand drawing and computer software skills. Preferably, applicants have experience with Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Trimble SketchUp, Rhino, Vray, Lumion and Microsoft Office programs.
Interns will return to their studies enriched by exposure to peers and professionals, and to the extraordinary opportunities in the profession of their choice.
Working with us, you will:
Performanalysis, design and documentation of building electrical systems including power distribution, lighting and fire alarm systems
Assist in the preparation of presentation materials and reports
Analyze, strategize, incorporate and track sustainable design strategies
Contribute proactively to the project team
Assist in construction administration by reviewing submittals, performing and preparing site observation reports and answering Contractor requests for information
Develop solutions to challenging electrical issues with integrated architecture and engineering project design teams
An ideal candidate has:
0 to 2 years of related experience working (such as summer, co-op or intern work in the AE field)
A graduation date of 2020or 2021for a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
Familiarity with SKM, AGI32 or other electrical systems evaluation programs
Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit software
Good written and verbal communication skills
Resourceful and team-oriented problem solving skills
