Great Lakes Bay Health Centers (GLBHC) is a community health center umbrella made up of 32 locations throughout the Great Lakes Bay region and beyond. Most locations are set up to serve medically underserved populations, but our doors are open to anyone regardless of insurance or lack of insurance. The services provided are sensitive to the community's needs, are not based on ability to pay, and are offered without regard to criteria such as race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Job Summary
Health Information Management Specialists are responsible for coordinating centralized health information requests for all GLBHC sites, in addition to entering, maintaining and updating patient health information into the electronic health records. The Specialists will scan in documents, manipulate current data, edit existing information, or proofread new data entered into the database to ensure it is accurate, at times gathering information from a Health Information Exchange (HIE). The Specialists may also be required to abstract information from paper medical records for inclusion into the electronic record. Specialists are responsible for reviewing all written and verbal requests for release of information to ensure the validity of the request and authorization to release the requested information are in compliance and adherence with all regulatory requirements, guidelines and GLBHC policies and procedures. Supports GLBHC sites in providing a team-based approach to care in the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH). Participates in activities related to Quality Improvement (QI).
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum of six (6) months of data entry experience required or Or, an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
- Excellent data entry, filing, computer and telephone etiquette skills.
- Critical thinking skills essential.
- Experience working in a health information/medical records department or indexing responsibilities in a health care organization preferred.
- Experience with filing preferred.
