PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the quality manager, the quality technician/weld destruct supports manufacturing by improving the company and department efficiency in a safe, high quality and productive manner, and is accountable for the quality and housekeeping goals.
RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY:
- Responsible for support of floor operations and quality to ensure conformance to the Customer specific requirements.
- Encourage safety and housekeeping practices and lead by example.
- Promote and facilitate the Open Door process, effective communication, and Fair Treatment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITIONS:
- Work well with power cutting tools, torches, air chisels, and Ultra Sonic weld inspection equipment.
- Utilize statistical and problem-solving knowledge.
- Enter inspection results into computer-based inspection documents.
- Perform part capability studies and Gauge R & R’s as required.
- Interpret joining documentation, including spot patterns layouts, weld information master sheets, including the major attributes of each.
- Maintain all equipment used for dimensional and weld inspection.
- Perform destructive testing and analysis of spot welds using a plasma cutter, air chisels, and other destructing tools.
- Perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and analysis of spot welds using Ultra Sonic weld inspection equipment.
- Perform correlation of NDT and destructive testing to ensure valid NDT results.
- Cut, polish, and etch weld cross-sections per control plan sample size and frequencies.
- Maintain welding, weld destruct, and non-destruct equipment.
- Assist with sample submission.
- Conduct shift pass down with other employees.
- Maintain close communication with Engineers, Weld Technicians, Quality Assurance, and Production employees.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized work area.
- Attain safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement goals.
- Build and maintain positive employee relations.
- Attend training as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Mechanical aptitude, critical/rational thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Prepare, read, and interpret written reports, instructions, procedures, and guidelines.
- Manage and schedule multiple priorities and meet deadlines with minimum direct supervision.
- Calculate figures and amounts, such as percentages and proportions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to perform physical activities, such as but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 40 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical and other environmental hazards. Effectively use computers and software as required. Work well with others. Must be able to work flexible hours and overtime.
Must pass a Near Vision Acuity test and a Color Contrast Differentiation exam.
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Above average computer skills.
- Must have experience with GMAW and RSW applications.
- Must receive and maintain Level I NDT certification in UT.
- Must have experience using standard measurement, inspection, and testing equipment in the inspection of sheet metal parts and assemblies.
