The Department of Radiology at Michigan Medicine of the University of Michigan has an immediate opening at the Research Laboratory Technician Intermediate level. The candidate will be responsible for aiding the PI in managing the processing and analysis of imaging data from clinical trials and oversight of regular wet lab duties. Candidates will also assist the PI in the implementation and analysis of various experiments. These experiments are performed in wet labs, tissue culture facility and using animal models of cancer. Studies are performed in a multi-disciplinary environment which include scientists, physicians, statisticians and engineers, as well as clinical trials and industrial partners. We seek individuals with the motivation and initiative to expand the successes of the group. A commitment of 2 years or more to the lab is recommended.
40% Lab Management:
- Supervise and train new undergraduate employees
- Assist the PI and postdoctoral fellows
- Maintain laboratory records and lab notebooks
- Ensure we are compliant with all OSHE/ULAM regulations.
- Maintain chemical inventory
- Purchase and order consumables weekly
- Dispose and manifest all hazardous waste generated in the lab
- Manage data bases: cell lines, plasmids, glycerol stocks, antibodies, chemical inventory
40% Oversite of Data Processing and Analysis:
- Assist in processing and analyzing imaging data from ongoing clinical trials and preclinical studies.
- Oversee and train lab members in processing and analyzing both clinical and preclinical data.
- Assist the PI, collaborators and clinical coordinators in discussing imaging data results from clinical trials.
20% Maintenance of Pre-clinical Mouse Models:
- Murine models for lung cancer: GEM and xenograft, genotyping
- The candidate must have a minimum of an Associate degree and 1 year of lab experience.
- The successful applicant must be highly meticulous, attentive to detail and communicative as the individual will oversee all lab activities and aid investigators in the development and implementation of image processing and visualization algorithms for three-dimensional quantitative data sets (clinical and preclinical).
- The applicant must also show proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), which are used for documenting experimental methods, data records and presentation of results.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are required for success in our collaborative research environment.
Knowledge of molecular and cellular biology techniques as well as mouse modeling, mouse handling and data analysis is preferred but not required. Programming experience in MATLAB and/or C/C++ is preferred but not required. If necessary, these skills will be taught on-site under the direction or the PI or members of the lab. Additional skills that are preferred, but not required, are performing cell culture as well as animal experiments.
Ultimately, we are seeking a dynamic individual with a strong interest in participating in multidisciplinary team projects. The applicant must be ambitious, talented, and self-motivated with an interest in leveraging our research interests, as this position emphasizes the ability to learn new concepts and skills quickly. The candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities in a research laboratory.
Bachelors Degree in Biology, Chemistry or similar fields, is preferred.
