The Discipline Chair of Medicine reports to the Dean of the College of Medicine (CMED). The Chair is expected to exhibit refined leadership and mentoring ability, excellent communication skills, and lead the development and enhancement of educational and research activities in accordance with the vision of CMED and CMU Medical Education Partners (CMEP). The Chair will work with the operations leadership of CMEP to optimally deliver clinical services within the discipline.
The Chair will create a positive work environment and serve as a role model for effective communication. The Chair will establish a system to ensure timely transmittal of information to all discipline faculty and serves as a liaison between administration and faculty. The Chair needs to understand local and national health care forces that may impact or shape the discipline.
The Chair is responsible for productively interacting with administration, participating in advancement opportunities, and ensuring compliance with all internal policies and procedures. The Chair is responsible for ensuring regular discipline meetings, summarizing discipline activities as requested, and representing the discipline as requested with clinical partners and other affiliates.

Eligibility for associate professor rank or higher, depending on credentials
Certification by an American Board of Medical Specialties or American Osteopathic Association recognized clinical specialty. Medical disciplines refer to specialties such as Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, and Family Medicine.
Licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of Michigan
Established credentials and experience in clinical practice, medical education, leadership, and research
Strong collaborative and communication skills
Strong commitment to innovative approaches to education and learning
Experience with independent design and conduct of research in relevant academic and/or clinical domains
