The Deputy Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (hereinafter “Deputy THPO”) is responsible for assisting the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO) in carrying out the responsibilities of the Tribal Historic Preservation Office including the clerical and administrative work.
Salary/Pay Rate: $15.00-$20.00/Hour (D.O.E.)

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Get mail and open mail daily.
• Answer phones and greet clients and customers.
• Answer correspondence as directed.
• Know and understand how the following regulations apply to the Getegitigaaning Ojibwe Nation (LVD): the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended (NHPA), Archaeological Resources Protection Act 1979 (ARPA),
American Indian Religious Freedom Act of 1978 (AIRFA), and the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990 (NAGPRA), while applying that knowledge in daily duties.
• Assist with coordination and communication of upcoming events to the Tribal Membership, Tribal/Casino Employees, etc. to ensure that no scheduling conflicts occur, and that information is distributed properly.
• Conduct NHPA Section 106 reviews, after completion of training requirements, and data entry of NHPA Section 106 Responses.
• Track program income by Excel Spreadsheet.
• Must have general knowledge and possess basic use of GPS/GIS mapping systems.
• Must have the ability to effectively write a site monitoring report.
• Participate and represent tribal interests in meetings, consultations, workshops, training sessions, conferences and other activities, as required, for the purpose of upgrading skills relevant to job duties.
• Assist with grant writing preparation as well as grant reporting.
• Assist with Cultural programming and classes within the Department, along with public education efforts.
• Conduct and continue Tribal history research endeavors.
• Track and complete intake forms for donations, gifts and loans to the Tribal Collections and Archives.
• Assist with the issuance of Off-Reservation licenses, permits, and registration, per the “Off-Reservation Conservation Code of the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians,” as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Ability to write and speak professionally.
• Must have exceptional organization skills.
• Must have experience in the following computer software: MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, MS Outlook, and the internet. Must also possess knowledge of digital cameras, scanners, and Adobe Acrobat documents.
• Ability to work with standard Computer Programming as well as GIS mapping software used for Cultural Resource surveys and inventory.
• Must have knowledge of the Lac Vieux Desert Ojibwe people and their spiritual, traditional, historical, and ancestral ties of the community, while also agreeing not to publish or otherwise distribute culturally sensitive information to the public
without proper consent.
• Knowledge and understanding of missions, organizational goals and objectives of the Tribal intent for Historic Preservation and Cultural Resource management.
• Must be willing to work outdoors and in the field, as necessary.
• The applicant must be insurable under the tribes’ insurance as well and must pass a background check as well as a pre-employment drug test.
