This Senior Systems Engineer develops tests and testing strategies to characterize system level failures that could be the result of abuse, multi-point failures, customer scenarios, and race conditions. This position would leverage Li-ion battery standards and regulations and tailor tests to the XALT Energy XPAND battery system so to extract the data required to properly assess the risk to a hazard. Extensive test development experience and engineering know-how is required. Expertise in data acquisition systems and data presentation is also necessary. This is a hands-on engineering position; use of lab equipment and tools is mandatory.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute tests to extract the necessary information to support development of safe Li-ion battery systems.
- During hazard analysis and risk assessment understand the failures, how to reproduce those failures systemically, and determine the critical data that needs to be collected.
- Develop test plans, coordinate testing activities, execute tests, process test results, and present those findings to XALT Energy leadership and technical staff.
- Support customer meetings when appropriate to present test results.
Additional Support Responsibilities:
- Mentor less experienced engineers
- Proactively support design validation teams in test plan reviews to ensure testing strategies and methods truly stress and verify design compliance and safety.
- Work closely with Functional Safety team to understand failure modes and support testing to answer questions as it pertains to hazard levels.
- Acquire and maintain data acquisition tool and equipment to ensure they are appropriately stored and calibrated
- Develop and document unique data acquisition tools and equipment to interface with XPAND battery system to capture the necessary data.
- Proactively support Design FMEA, particularly in areas related to special tests outside standard testing
- Proactively support Service Engineering with recommendations for improving Service strategies
