The Mill Machinist performs advanced machining duties to provide our customers with the best possible part through new and innovative manufacturing techniques in an exemplary manner according to the company quality policies.
Qualified candidates will possess the following Minimum Requirements:
- A diploma or GED
- Two years of experience creating and modifying computer numerical control (CNC) programs for mills
- Previous experience setting up and operating CNC mills, wire burn machines, and manual machines
- Experience trouble-shooting CNC programs
- Software proficiency with computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) software
- Ability to interpret blueprints and CAD data
- An excellent work record, including attendance
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- A company Hi-lo/forklift and crane license (or the ability to pass both written and practical tests in order to obtain them)
Outstanding candidates will possess the following Desired Requirements:
- Experience with Master Cam
Essential Functions:
Preventative Maintenance/Standard Work:
- Operate multiple automated CNC or wire-cut electrical discharge machining (EDM) machines simultaneously.
- Ensure that all machine settings and work offsets are correct.
- Support the Production CNC Department, when needed (i.e., change or update programs, change cutting tools, repair fixtures, make new fixtures, etc.).
- Operate all manual machines, including mill lathes, grinders, and drill presses, as needed.
- Send out product for heat treat, completing all the necessary paperwork.
- Receive raw materials and complete proper paperwork.
- Document project information such as machine time, programming changes, and other issues that may impede machine performance.
- Ensure all features on components have been completed (de-magnified, de-burred, and chamfered) prior to their next operation.
CNC Programming:
- Use Master Cam 2D and 3D software to create the proper programs in the CNC mills.
- Create programs for Fein Tool knockouts, posts, punches, mushroom blocks, nests, and retainers in the CNC mills.
- Create programs for Compound posts, retainers, die rings, strippers, and risers in the CNC mills.
- Create programs for Progressive tooling, 3D shape forms, 3D shape punches, retainers, risers, cut-off steels, and cut-off punches in the CNC mills.
- Create programs for Transfer tooling, 3D complex tooling, trim steels, part posts, cutouts, and forms in the CNC mills.
Quality:
- Use prints and CAD data to verify critical dimensions, quality, and to ensure all detail is complete.
- Consistently adhere to, and support, company policies and procedures, including ISO, TS16949, and safety regulations.
Lean Principles/Continuous Improvement/5s:
- Analyze and determine the sequence of operations from the print to ensure the most efficient process is being used and the accuracy of the component.
- Set up and operate equipment CNC machines and tool room manual machines efficiently using the latest technologies and processes available.
- Organize and maintain the efficiency of the personal work area.
