This is an entry-level position in the manufacturing facility located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Below qualifications are a minimum and not intended to cover all duties and responsibilities.
Rate: $13.00 per hour in the Utility classification until successfully completing probationary period. Next pay raise will not occur until the acceptance of and successful award of bid into the position of Stacker, which has a pay rate of $15.00 per hour.
General Job Activities:
This classification is responsible for all general labor functions in the facility. Position will perform carton stacking in the converting department, cleaning and sanitation work in accordance with external quality audit standards, product inspection, sorting, packaging and product identification, tagging and labeling of individual pallets, logging of information pertaining to production reporting and tracking, and the stocking of supplies as needed on the manufacturing floor.
Specific Job Activities:
- Work safely at all times following all safety rules, procedures and policies
- Stand for 8 to 12 hours during the shift, combined with stopping for short breaks
- Lift 25 to 50 lbs. consisting of paper waste, pallets, buckets of ink, other materials
- Bending, twisting and reaching during the shift
- Use of manual and automated lift equipment
- Monitor production process and carrying out all quality checks
- Report safety issues to appropriate staff immediately
- Maintain safe, clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations
- Prepare work areas for production
- Complete quality process verifications using ‘circle check s’ at start of shift, plate changes, and every new order change (make-ready)
- Prepare skids for stacks by making sure paper barriers are present and stocking the barriers for use on the top and bottom of the skid
- Help the Operator/Assistant when a make-ready takes place by removing and replacing ink buckets, changing out skids, and placing identification flags on completed skids
- Stacking cartons during the production run and completing all quality checks before placing materials onto the skid
- Cleaning and sorting during production downtimes
- Start and stop equipment as needed using controls and switches
- Handle and move manual lift carts
- Identify and remove defective product from production based on quality standard parameters
- Communicate effectively with Operator, Quality Auditor and Team Leaders
