Join Cardno's Restoration Services team to play an integral role in implementing project work in the ecological restoration management field.Job Description:
Cardno is seeking an Ecological Restoration Field Technician. Projects will involve field implementation of ecological restoration techniques, technical work, and/or supervision of field crews. A typical work day consists of 8-10 hours of in-the-field physical labor, although, in accordance with the requirements of specific assignments, may include irregular hours. This position will require overnight travel.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
> Implementing restoration project work at the ground level as part of a multidisciplinary team including Field Supervisors, Project Managers and Technical Experts
> Native planting, seeding, erosion control installation, shoreline and streambank restoration, invasive species control, herbicide application, use of hand and power tools to manage vegetation, operation of equipment including UTVs, prescribed fire and other activities necessary for field implementation of ecological restoration projects
> Accurate documentation of daily field activities using GIS or data sheets and organization of materials
> Compliance with all company and client safety and training requirements
> Adherence to corporate policies, operate through the proper management channels, and act in the best interest of the company
Basic Qualifications:
> Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences (Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, Biology, Wildlife, Fisheries, Forestry) - in progress or equivalent experience
> Ability to traverse wet and/or rugged terrain in diverse, sometimes inclement, weather conditions while carrying up to 50 lbs.
> Experience in native and invasive species plant identification
> Experience operating basic hand tools and smaller equipment such as backpack sprayers, augers, chainsaws, and/or brushcutters
> Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
> Availability and willingness to travel overnight for multiple days per week, occasionally more than a week, and adaptable to schedule changes upon short notice
> Must be able to work in an environment where safety is at the forefront of all operations
> Technicians will be required to obtain Commercial Pesticide Applicator's Certifications in MDARD Categories 5 and 6
> Valid Driver's License with the ability to drive a company vehicle and an acceptable motor vehicle record
> Must be authorized to work in U.S. without company sponsorship
Desired Qualifications:
> Experience operating equipment such as ATVs/UTVs, boats, tractors, chippers, and/or skid steers
> Experience with herbicide handling, application, and application equipment
> Experience with flora or fauna surveys including native and invasive species, threatened and endangered species, mussels, macroinvertebrates, pollinators, fish and wildlife
> Knowledge and/or experience in ecological restoration techniques
> Experience in map reading, GIS, and/or operating a GPS
> Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or Red Card
