AK Steel, a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc. has an immediate opportunity for a CAE Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct engineering studies on BIW, chassis and closures systems to improve performance and/or reduce weight of the desired system. Engineering studies would be conducted utilizing a vast suite of CAE tools for linear static, Non-linear static, dynamic and fatigue.
- Conduct optimization studies utilizing linear optimization and multiple disciplinary optimization.
- Evaluate Durability, NVH and Crash results and suggest design improvements based on the results to improve the final product.
- Work closely with customers to identify joint projects utilizing steel to improve performance and or light weighing of the BIW.
- Have the ability to manage projects from beginning to ending, documenting results and presenting proposals to customers.
- Manage internal projects to develop product applications for future grades of steel under development.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required. Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
- 3 to 5 years experience in body structure design preferred.
- BIW and Closures experience.
- Experience in crash, durability and/or NVH simulations.
- Fluent in NASTRAN, Abaqus, HyperMesh, LS-DYNA.
- Familiar with optimization.
- Have good communication skills.
- Self-starter and work with little direction.
