Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
Unit Position Summary
The Michigan State University Soil Biology Lab is looking for a full time lab technician, starting this spring through fall 2021, with possibility of continuation into spring/summer 2022. The position will pay $15/hr and will include both lab and field-based research focused on plant-soil-microbe interactions. Research in the focuses on how soil microorganisms control soil organic matter formation and break-down and nutrient cycling in agroecosystems. Work on these projects will provide valuable, basic laboratory skills and more specifically, experience conducting a wide variety of soil analyses including extracellular enzyme assays, soil DNA extraction, quantification and sequencing, soil nutrient and chemical analyses and soil physical and chemical fractionations. Field work will include soil sampling, GIS data collection, plant trait analyses and greenhouse gas measurements. A Bachelor''s degree in soil science, ecology, microbiology, environmental science or closely related fields is required. Previous lab experience, especially soils lab experience is desired but not required. Must be willing to live in or near East Lansing, MI and available to work in this position for a minimum of 6 months.
