LOCATION
The Sr. Technician-CE position is eligible for remote work or can be based in any of our Michigan locations.
DEPARTMENT SUMMARY
The Transmission Design and Records Management (TDRM) department is responsible for the engineering and design of Gas Transmission pipelines, including the lowering of gas pipelines and relocations, emergency valve replacements, and other compliance-driven pipeline projects. The team also provides design and technical expertise to other departments.
JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBLITIES
The Sr. Technician-CE is responsible for:
- Providing engineering and design support for the TPE and TED-I departments utilizing computer aided drafting and design (CADD) software.
- Supporting both pipeline engineering departments with completing capital and O&M projects including new pipelines, valve replacements and other pipeline maintenance projects.
- Performing tasks, technical in nature, ranging from standard to complex.
- Providing high quality design, construction, and record drawings for the pipeline engineering departments.
- Fulfilling ad-hoc mapping requests using GIS and/or CADD.
- Following all applicable Consumers Energy CADD and engineering design standards.
- Retrieving records to support the design and scoping of pipeline engineering projects.
- Supporting the access bill of material database by performing routine updates.
- Providing assistance with other departmental tasks in support of compliance with Michigan Gas Safety Standards.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate Degree (or 48 credit hours) in a scientific/technical field plus six (6) years of related work experience, OR no degree and ten (10) years of related work experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Proficiency in CADD and be able to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
- Proficiency in MicroStation and Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - The following skills will set you apart:
- Experience in utility design
- Knowledge of GIS applications
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience in gas pipeline design or operations
- Knowledge of ProjectWise
- Knowledge of Bentley OpenPlant 3D design software
HOURS & TRAVEL
- This role is typically a 40 hour per week role. Flexibility in schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime may be required to support customer requirements.
- Travel up to 10% of time with occasional overnight travel, depending on assignment and/or training needs.
