Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy and headquartered in Jackson, Michigan, provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 6.8 million of Michigan's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.The Business Architect plays the primary role in assuring that technology investments are aligned to the overall and business unit strategy, assuring that an enterprise wide view is used to optimize investments.Business Architecture is a discipline concerned with developing and maintaining business capabilities of the enterprise in line with the corporate strategy. Business Architects determine the best way for an enterprise to turn the business strategy into an actionable plan, enabled through strategic technology investments.Roles and Responsibilities:•Work with Corporate Services & Governance (CS&G) portfolio teams to:•Understand the Corporate Services & Governance strategy and how it relates to the company's Destination strategy•Understand future business needs as developed in various CS&G-driven roadmaps and strategic plans, including the Digital Roadmap, Talent Roadmap, Enterprise Resource Plan and Natural Gas Delivery Plan.•Maintain knowledge on both business and technology trends to understand directional change and opportunities•Understand existing technology capabilities and opportunities to optimize the investments for business value•Act as an advisor on major process and technology change projects•Act as a link between business and technical experts when designing technology solutions. Engage portfolio resources as appropriate to provide solution/technical knowledge•Work cross-organizationally to understand how business unit functions align and determine economies of scale•Identify change requirements and understand the various abilities of the business unit to adapt new trends and technology•Identify desired business outcomes•Define and adjust the actionable plans, Digital Roadmap and other related technology roadmaps based on business outcomes as defined through the strategic roadmaps, Business Architecture domains and target architecture developed by Enterprise Architecture•Work with Enterprise Architecture to:•Provide understanding of the business outcomes to other architecture resources•Determine cross organization needs for target architecture•Define optimal technology solutions to support the actionable plans, considering both existing investments and target architectures•Gather information required to develop and maintain a portfolio of projects aimed at achieving the business outcomes•Work as a cross-portfolio team of Business Architects to:•Align like business capabilities across business areas•Provide a comprehensive view of the value chain to understand the business process as a whole•Develop actionable plans, roadmaps and business cases that take the whole enterprise into account and are not limited to one business unit•Other responsibilities include:•Develop white papers and points of view regarding business trends and the relationship to technology•Continue to enhance personal knowledge of current and new technologies; market, industry and vendor trends; and best practice applications of technology•Develop business cases for projects, which include providing high level Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimates, for projects that make up the actionable plan and roadmaps•Work with the broader IT organization to demonstrate and communicate the business outcomes and shape the thinking about how the outcomes impact technology decisions•Develop strong relationships across the enterprise to:•Work effectively and successfully to carry out the Business Architect role•Develop and Maintain credibility and effective relationships with business partners and across ITAptitude:•The competencies associated with having high Digital Dexterity are key to success in the Business Architecture role. The role is one that both leverages and develops these competencies.
