Position Summary
Performs laboratory experiments under the direction of the principal investigator or research associate/scholar involving cell culture, animal studies and animal tissue processing/staining with microscopic examination as needed; assists in conducting studies, data collection and analysis; compiles results and assists in preparation of information for reports, publications and presentations; maintains research records; presents work in lab meetings; performs or assists in laboratory assays using biochemistry, immunohistochemistry and molecular biology; manages lab operations and assists student employees on basic lab techniques; monitors compliance with safety regulations; orders supplies and assists in lab set-up and maintenance, media/buffer preparations, autoclaving etc. This is a full-time position and the candidate must be available to work Monday – Friday.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in basic biological sciences or a related degree; six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic research techniques, animal handling, cell culture and molecular biology techniques, and laboratory maintenance/management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Previous experience working in a research lab with one to two years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience performing basic research techniques related to cell culture and animal studies; laboratory maintenance and student supervision; knowledge of basic statistical tests commonly used to analyze data from laboratory studies; basic molecular biology and biochemistry/immunohistochemistry experience; microscopic analysis of animal tissues; use and calibration of laboratory equipment; word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software proficiency.

Description of End Date
This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.

- Wear a respirator (does not include paper dust mask worn for comfort)
