POTAWATOMI LANGUAGE AND CULTURAL CO-INSTRUCTOR
This part time position will collaborate directly with the existing Middle School/High School Potawatomi language Instructor to develop and deliver culturally responsive instruction in Potawatomi language and culture within the schools MS/HS Potawatomi Language Program. This co-teaching position supports the continued growth, implementation and preservation of the Potawatomi language curriculum while ensuring students receive the instruction necessary to meet MI. high school world language credit requirements through the two-year language program.
QUALIFICATIONS: Michigan Teacher Certificate is preferred. Experience and qualifications related to Native American language instruction, cultural education or language revitalization are highly valued. Depending on an individual’s qualifications, background, cultural knowledge, and Potawatomi language proficiency, the Hannahville Indian Community may support alternative authorization or certification pathways for individuals who do not possess a current MI. teaching certificate, including authorization to teach Native American Language and Culture courses for up to 3 years. Documented experience working with children and/or students required. Experience teaching, mentoring or supporting Native American language and culture education preferred. Experience collaborating with community elders, language speakers or cultural knowledge keepers in preferred.
