Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy and headquartered in Jackson, Michigan, provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 6.8 million of Michigan's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.Department SummaryThe Grid Management (System Control) Department is responsible for:•Providing a safe workplace for field personnel•Providing a safe and reliable electricity to the public•Maintaining the reliability of the Consumers Energy (CE) electric systemThe department has the sole authority and responsibility for the reliability of the CE Transmission, High Voltage Distribution (HVD) and Low Voltage Distribution (LVD) electric systems. System Control is responsible for monitoring and coordinating operations on the real-time statewide CE electric system to ensure the safe and reliable supply of energy to our customers. Furthermore, the department supervises and administers outages on the Transmission, HVD and LVD electric systems to ensure it is done in a safe, efficient and reliable manner in accordance with the policies, procedures and guidelines of CE, NERC, MISO and all other state and federal regulatory entities as applicable.The successful candidate will work from the Jackson (Parnall), Michigan location.Job Description/ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior System Operator, you will:•Perform the same responsibilities as the associated Distribution Operator II or System Operator II with the additional responsibilities of:•Driving the department mission and vision into the organization by proactively building on CE's planned switching schedule, establishing strong communications and eliminating distractions in the control room.•Directing the administration of Switching, Tagging and Clearance operations and providing operational direction to GM's Real Time Operators.•In addition, the Senior Operator:•In coordination with the Lead System Operator, directs actions to alleviate Operating Security Limit violations.•As directed by the Lead System Operator, directs restoration of load shed after Emergency events.•Oversees coordinated operations to ensure system operations are conducted in a safe, efficient and reliable manner as set forth by the policies, procedures and guidelines of CE, NERC, ITC, MIOSHA, MPSC, MISO and RF.•Ability to interact with internal and external clients to give and receive advanced information.•Ability to identify, research, and analyze advanced problems.•Knowledge of utility practices and procedures.•Skill in supervisory practices.•Excellent communication skills.•Ability to solve a range of complex problems.•Demonstrated enhanced knowledge and understanding of the regulatory and operational policies and procedures.•Thorough understanding of operating CE's electric system to ensure GM operates in the safest and most efficient manner possible.•Will supervise and/or mentor System Controllers.•Leadership skills are evident; provide team leadership in the areas of ethics, compliance and engagement.•Ability to mentor employees one-on-one.Required Qualifications•A Bachelor's degree in Business, a Scientific/Technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience.•Also requires at least one year as a Distribution Operator II or System Operator II.•Successful completion of the Operator Qualifications for CE System Control prior to applying for this role.Preferred Qualifications•Experience in operating an electric system to include knowledge of SCADA operations.•Knowledge and experience in Switching & Tagging on an electric system.•Demonstrated understanding of electric systems, system components, work practices and operating principles.•Knowledge of Transmission Operations Application (TOA), Outage Management System (OMS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA).•Process Improvement experience.•Proficient oral and written communication skills.•Able to make appropriate decisions and prioritize multiple tasks under stressful conditions.Essential FunctionsSenior System Operators:•Monitor, control and support 24/7 operations of the CE electric power system to meet power demands•Are responsible for the reliability of CE's electric systems.•Are responsible for analyzing and monitoring CE's electric systems for both normal and emergency restoration conditions.•Administer the switching and tagging on CE's electric systems to ensure outages are executed in a safe, efficient and reliable manner as set forth by the policies, procedures and guidelines of CE, NERC, ITC, MIOSHA, MPSC, MISO and RF.•Monitor SCADA showing operating condition of lines and equipment throughout the system and make adjustments or direct workers to make adjustments as conditions warrant.•Direct substation switching to de-energize malfunctioning equipment or circuits to ensure the safety of maintenance and repair personnel and avoid interruptions of service during repairs.•Understand and follow company established standard procedures in order to complete work assignments.•Utilize effective communication skills to answer inquiries and give direction to coworkers and clients.•Attend internal meetings.•Provide business analysis and support services in a legal and ethical manner.•Review and approve scheduled...
