Works as a mechanical skilled trades person on the production equipment
Job Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Operate Mobile CMMS Device for Reactive Calls as well as Preventive Maintenance assignments.
- Must understand mechanics of machining and grinding centers, heat-treat furnaces, and assembly lines.
- Must understand conveyors, automation, robotics, and mechanical systems.
- Must understand Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Force presses, gauging stations, automated welding assembly, Automation – motor/gear box, for work piece holding and pipefitting.
- Must understand tool room capabilities, lathes, bridgeports, grinders, sanders, and welding.
- Work from blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools or assemblies.
- Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers and dial indicators to ensure product quality.
- Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of assemblies, based upon specifications.
- Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders to cut, bore, grind or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
- File, grind, shim and adjust different parts to properly fit them together.
- Fit and assemble parts to make, repair or modify jigs, gauges and tools using machine tools and hand tools.
- Perform tests with completed tools to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustments as necessary.
- Lift, position, and secure machine parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks or angle plates.
- Measure, mark and scribe metal or plastic stock to lay out machining, using instruments such as protractors, micrometers, scribes and rulers.
- Cut, shape and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rulers and hand tools.
- Design jigs, fixtures and templates for use as work aids in the fabrication of parts or products Select materials to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerances.
- Gauging machines and gauge assembly stations.
- Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly.
- Perform incidental tasks as required to complete the larger task.
- Weld with Tig, Mig or stick welding for part touching details.
- Fabricate from prints.
- Inspect and operate various types of mobile equipment such as forklifts and hoists.
- Adhere to safety requirements and processes.
- Work in team-based environment and independently.
- Accept direction from various management team members.
- Must have experience troubleshooting on electrical and mechanical systems.
- Must be able to work with outside vendors.
- Must work in efficient manner to minimize equipment down time.
- Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training.
- Comply with all IATF policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years verified toolmaker experience.
- Must have up-to-date technological training and experience on newer state of the art equipment.
- Must have own tools.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Journeyman preferred
- Manufacturing Experience
- Experience in the Automotive industry.
- German and/or Spanish language skills.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of the job, the associate is exposed to an engineering lab atmosphere with some office exposure. The engineering lab includes a machine shop, where the associate is exposed to potentially hazardous equipment and moderate to high noise levels, both requiring the use of protective equipment in order to ensure the safety of the associate.
