Read more at www.dsv.comLocation: Grand Rapids, MIJob Posting Title: Director, OperationsSUMMARYThe Director of Operations provides operational oversight of multiple client operations, including managing all account managers and, indirectly, their support staff. The position is responsible for senior level customer communication, negotiations, and development. They have a solid understanding of both the manufacturing environment as well as third party logistics management, and have operational and P&L responsibility for multiple accounts.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES•Provides direction and oversight to Account Managers, including•Budgeting•Establishing KPIs•Hiring•Promoting•Conducting performance evaluations•Recommending pay increases•Training, developing, and mentoring team members•Providing progressive discipline including termination, as necessary•Scheduling•Develops and maintains positive customer relationships.•Communicates effectively with customers, vendors and team members.•Responsible for ensuring accurate data capture and system entry.•Proactively utilizes data and problem solving skills to resolve internal team, customer service and vendor issues.•Continually looks for opportunities for improvements both internally and externally.•Develops and promotes a team environment.•Responsible for all aspects of personnel management including associate performance feedback, training, management, mentoring and progression development.•Assists with implementation and testing of new account start-ups.•Documents and maintains all applicable department SOP’s•Conducts project work as required.OTHER DUTIES•Budget management and responsibility.•Support sales team on new sales opportunities and quantifying value for supply chain solutions•Ability to present the data and findings in front of the Customer•Review, update and maintain standard operating procedures (SOP’s)SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES•Ensures direct reports deliver projects within scope and on time and meet customer expectations.•Manages team vacations, schedules and work load of team to assist in project prioritization.•Development of direct reports.MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED)Education and/or Experience•5 years’ experience in transportation/supply chain management in 3PL or manufacturing environment.•3 years’ management experience.•College degree in Logistics, Industrial Engineering, or related field or experience in lieu of education.Computer Skills•Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications; i.e. Project, Word, Excel, Access, Visio, Office•Knowledge and understanding of Transportation Management Systems, i.e. i2/JDELanguage Skills•EnglishMathematical Skills•Analytical and a solid mathematics foundation is a must.Other Skills•Knowledge of customer base and system capabilities is critical.•Strong interpersonal skills that promote team building and associate development are required.•Demonstrated leadership and management capability•Superior analytical and problem solving skills•Strong project management skills•Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously•Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills•Ability to work independently and as part of a team•Strong work ethic, patience, and willing to travel extensively•Ability to work in a fast paced environmentPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation and/or Experience•Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or related field.•10 years’ management experience in a logistics, customer service or related field.•7 years’ management experience.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Professional Designations•Project Management Certified a plus•Lean management principles a plus•Six Sigma Certification a plusPHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
