Department Summary
Fleet Services, part of Operation Support, consist of 113 skilled heavy equipment mechanics, 12 Field Leaders, 11 Fleet Schedulers and numerous support staff across 36 sites. Fleet Services is responsible for maintaining the day-to-day functionality of the Consumers Energy Fleet statewide, totaling over 7,000+ vehicles and equipment. Day-to-day operations consist of employee safety, service calls, corrective and preventative maintenance, and managing external contract vendors for outside repairs and services. Fleet Services is driven to provide exceptional service at the lowest cost possible, by partnering with our using groups and through implementation of continuous improvement projects.
Job Description/Responsibilities
This position will have leadership responsibilities for both Electric and Gas Fleet assets in the Livonia, Owosso, Groveland, Howell and Northville Service Centers. It includes managing mechanics and vendors who are performing maintenance and demand work on Fleet assets at those headquarters.
The successful candidate will have oversight and accountability for achieving safety, operational, and financial metrics. The successful candidate is also responsible for ensuring employee safety; mechanic, and scheduler performance; customer satisfaction; managing vendor/contract services; and partnering with operations managers to maximize Fleet asset utilization.
The position has the responsibility of ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements and corporate policies, as well as meeting the service requirements of the operating areas to ensure customers are responded to in an effective and efficient manner and maintain Fleet availability to meet their needs of service. This position will be required to travel to areas within the State and a flexible schedule will be required to ensure coverage of a multiple shift operation and available during storm restoration efforts if necessary. There is travel between garage locations and monthly Field Leader meetings, (monthly meetings are virtual). No out of state travel is required.

The primary location for this role is based out of Livonia, however this may be flexible.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent work experience)
- 3-4 years of previous fleet or utility management experience
