General Summary:
TheDirector of Emergency Nursing is a registered professional nurse who providesleadership and management to the emergency department through the applicationof advanced competencies in communication; job knowledge, professionalism andbusiness skills. He/she provides clinical and business direction to thedepartment of Emergency Services through the development and implementation ofnew programs, manages department operations and staff to achieve growth,customer satisfaction and financial objectives. This leader is a member of thechief nursing officer's administrative team and may serve as her/his designeefor assigned responsibilities. He/she demonstrates own leadership toeffectively partner with nursing leadership, hospital leadership, medical staffand other departments to create a center of excellence for emergency serviceand to meet or exceed the hospital's mission, vision and goals. This leaderadministers to two or more cost centers with over 50 FTEs.
Areas ofResponsibility:
Undergeneral direction, maintains 24 hour responsibility and accountability forproviding leadership and management of the emergency center which promotesquality care, cost effective use of resources and professional growth fornursing staff.
Essential Duties:
1.Providesdirection and leadership to achieve the division's short and long-term goalsand outcomes.
2.Developsand achieves annual Division goals that support the Mission and Vision. Updatesnursing strategic plan progress quarterly with written plan for improvingtargets not being achieved.
3.Managesthe Human Resources of the departments to ensure the achievement of Goals includingemployee satisfaction, staff retention, culture of safety and performance whileoptimizing resource consumption.
4.Overseeshiring, training, evaluation and engagement of staff members, ensuring PatientExperience behaviors are demonstrated always.
5.Developsstaffing patterns for the emergency department according to national benchmarksand productivity analyses.
6.Demonstratesleadership skills, consistent with system Mission and Vision to select, train,develop, empower, coach, delegate work assignments, and evaluate performance.

Education / Training: Master's Degree in Nursing orother administrative field (MSA, MBA, etc.) Will consider candidates within 6months of completing their Master's. Must have BSN degree.
Work Experience:LicensedRegistered Nurse in good standing. Emergency nursing experience preferred. Progressivenursing leadership experience of at least 5 years.
Certification, Licensure, Registration: State of Michigan Registered Nursing License. Must havecurrent AHA Basic Life Support certification. Must achieve Leadershipcertification (eg. NE-BC, CENP) within 2 years of hire.
