GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Critical Care PA or NP serves as an extension of the Critical Care Physician service. This team plays a crucial role in safe care of patients in MS-ICU, MICU, CICU, and IICU. PAs/NPs on this service will undergo specialty training in the area of Critical Care Medicine allowing them to provide a full spectrum of clinical services to the patient population-including management of ventilators and vasopressors. In conjunction with the Critical Care Physician staff and when necessary the House Physician staff, PAs/NPs will provide care from the point of admission, to daily rounding, to stepdown/discharge. PAs/NPs will respond to emergent changes in patient clinical status. Must possess the ability to identify, treat and stabilize patients with life-threatening clinical scenarios. Coordinate supporting clinical staff to address urgent patient situations. APPs will also assist with transitioning patients from lower acuity units to ICUs. This position requires competency in the performance of bedside procedures such as central and arterial lines, and beside ultrasound. Will assist in coordinating care, ordering tests and therapeutic measures, providing patient and family education, providing clinical support to ICU nursing staff as well as responding to stat calls which require evaluating and stabilizing patients on a unit. Respond to all CPR codes. This is a Critical Care position on established service with high level of autonomy in clinical practice. Extensive training program including one on one mentoring with Critical Care Physician and APP Educator, FCCS, Point of Care Ultrasound and Central Line placement.
STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS
A. Education / Training:
A graduate of an AMA recognized PA training program that is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission or Education for Physician Assistant (ACR-PA) OR a Masters Degree in Nursing.
B. Work Experience:
Prior hospitalist/critical care experience, preferred
C. Certification, Licensure, Registration:
State of Michigan PA/NP licensure, required
NCCPA/ANCC certification, required
AHA BLS Certification, required
D. Other Qualifications:
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients in situations requiring sensitivity and tact.
Demonstrates strong health assessment skills.
Position is 12 hour shift midnights 6pm-6:30am. Every third weekend
