As the Senior Director, Legal Counsel, you'll play a key role in the XPO legal department and will closely support XPO's less-than-truckload ("LTL") business. This is a legal generalist position with an emphasis on commercial contracting and will involve significant exposure to senior sales and operations leaders.

What you'll do on a typical day:
Closely collaborate with business partners and legal colleagues, and advise on a wide variety of commercial, legal, regulatory, and compliance issues, including safety and environmental compliance
Provide thought leadership in the commercial contracting area, and review, negotiate and draft a variety of contracts with an emphasis on LTL transportation agreements
Lead strategic projects and initiatives related to legal, compliance, and/or regulatory matters
Assist in the development and redesign of legal support processes, templates, and client-facing materials to drive greater internal efficiencies
Develop and deliver training to internal clients on various legal and regulatory topics
Provide litigation support to claims management team and outside counsel as needed and advise on customer and commercial disputes
Partner with other in-house counsel on a wide variety of issues related to the business
What you need to succeed at XPO:
At a minimum, you'll need:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work or military experience
J.D. from an accredited law school
7 years of experience as a practicing attorney; significant experience in commercial contracting, including transportation contracts; strong understanding of applicable laws and regulations, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
An active member in good standing of at least one state bar
Demonstrated attention to detail
It'd be great if you also have:
10 years experience as a practicing attorney with a combination of law firm and in-house experience; experience with the LTL transportation sector; experience with real estate issues, including leases and construction contracts
