The Dickinson County Healthcare System (DCHS) seeks a full-time Community Health Liaison to join their team of committed professionals in Iron Mountain, Michigan.
This brand-new position is a culmination of community health outreach, public relations, and a medical lab assistant. The ideal person for this role is someone with exceptional relationship building skills and the technical teeth (or willingness to be trained) to obtain patient samples (blood, stool, urine, sputum, swabs, temperatures, etc.). This position reports to the Occupational Clinic Supervisor.
RESPONSIBILITIES.
- Promote partnership and maintain effective and professional communication with the medical community, hospital staff, clinical laboratories, district/county health departments, correctional facilities and vendors.
- Provide direct patient care in obtaining blood specimens and collecting non-blood specimens (urine, stool, sputum, throat/nasal swabs, temperatures, etc.) for lab testing.
- Perform screening tests for which you are/will be prepared by education, training and/or experience.
- Perform temperature and questionnaire screenings for signs and symptoms of illness.
- Document and record information concisely, accurately and completely.
- Verify physician orders, assure accuracy of demographics against registration, perform computer accessioning of sample, label sample accurately.
- Provide proper patient instruction and collection containers; prep specimen for reference lab dispatch and testing.
- Follow policies, procedures, directives and compliance standards established by hospital and supervising staff.
WAGE/BENEFITS. Starting pay of $13.70 - $19.87 per hour based on knowledge and experience. In addition, this position offers medical, dental, vision, pension plan, paid time off (sick, vacation) and life insurance.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS.
- High school diploma or GED and valid driver’s license required.
- 1 year clinical experience
- Certification in any of the following areas preferred, however, we will train the right person who demonstrates a passion for our community and has a heightened interest in learning phlebotomy (blood draws), collecting non-blood specimens (urine, stool, sputum, throat/nasal swabs, etc.), performing temperate screenings, drug screening and pandemic testing: Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician, CNA, LPN, EMT, Paramedic or other directly related medical position.
- Exceptional customer service skills with a professional demeanor that ensures trust, competence, confidentiality and compassion amongst patients, medical community, hospital staff, clinical laboratories and health departments.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Flexibility in scheduling required as this position may work weekend or an evening rotation schedule on occasion.
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-hire drug screening and background check.
