Department Summary
As a Gas Field Leader in Transmission Operations, you will be responsible for the safe and productive execution of the Gas Operations and Maintenance plan, including operations and maintenance on Transmission facilities and regulatory programs out of the Lansing and Northville headquarters. The selected candidate will also be responsible for construction activities (by Company and contract crews), including reading and interpreting engineering drawings and schematics as well as leading team preparation and execution of written operating procedures.
The selected candidate must be able to collaborate with peers and supporting departments to create/maintain a work environment that supports each other to reach common goals of safety and health initiatives, compliance programs, and productivity.
Individuals will be capable of performing emergency leadership roles, perform safety and construction compliance audits, perform site readiness inspections, may handle and resolve routine customer issues, may lead project initiatives or assist in change implementation efforts, manage interfaces with other utilities or entities. Work may involve multiple shifts, locations and unusual hours to support unusual events
Job Description/Responsibilities
- This Field Leader position is responsible for the safe and productive execution of field work in the Lansing and Northville T&S areas with a primary focus on Measurement and Regulation.
- Provide leadership for up to 15 employees and participate in supervisory on-call duties.
- Lead and provide technical expertise, interact with customers, and direct work activities to meet established work plans and objectives.

Requirements/Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- 3 years' experence in supervisory roles and/or 3 years' industry experience
- Equivalent combination of education and supervisory/industry experience

- Higher Education (Associates degree, Bachelors' degree, Certification etc).
- Natural gas utility experience with a strong mechanical background in maintenance of gas Transmission facilities.
- Basic knowledge of natural gas principles relating to orifice meter, Coriolis, ultrasonic, transducers, gas heaters, gas quality and gas calculations.
- Experience working in a union environment, knowledge of our working agreement and prior supervisory experience.
Essential Functions
Responsible for the planning, organization, coordination, evaluation and supervision of employees assigned to the operation, maintenance and construction of Gas Transmission and Distribution systems, Third Party Producers, buildings and grounds or utility support areas. Recommends proposed changes and enhancements to systems and facilities operation; responds to complaints and requests for information; prepares and maintains reports of completed job orders and the status of jobs in progress. Inspects job sites to check on work progress, assures satisfactory completion and plans new assignments; prepares requisitions for operations and maintenance supplies, equipment and materials and supervises special projects as required. Conducts regular safety meetings, participates as a member of safety committee; investigates and completes necessary incident reports and accident reports; maintains records, prepares and submits required reports for appropriate agencies. Implements preventative maintenance programs. Regular attendance is expected.
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with a majority of the time spent in the office or specific field locations. Individual needs to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with project or emergent work and could be given very short notice to do so. Individual should be willing to participate in the on-call rotation for gas departments. Individual may have to work outside of assigned headquarters on an infrequent basis. Could potentially work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the business, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime. Individual must have a valid driver's license.
