The Clinical Director is responsible for the overall clinical quality of our psychiatric residential and dual diagnosis programs. This includes, but is not limited to, program development, ensuring quality care, providing effective leadership, training of clinical staff, and management of day-to-day operations of the programs.
Role and Responsibilities
- Oversees all clinical and treatment services; develops and instructs clinical programming and assists with staff training.
- Provides supervision and oversite to assigned staff, including clinical and administrative supervision, performance management and evaluation, scheduling, and timekeeping.
- Ensures efficacy across the continuums of care and ensures programs meet quality and financial goals.
- Provides staff education and training as needed to ensure the quality of care.
- Ensures designated programs meet all licensure, regulatory, and CARF standards.
- Works closely with the medical team and CMO (Chief Medical Officer) on coordinating client care.
- Collaborates with intakes of residential and outpatient clients.
- Collaborates with the Operations team (VP of Operations) and works with a multidisciplinary team (admissions, medical and clinical) to address clinical and screening concerns.
- Assists the Human Resource Department in the initial employment and termination process of clinical staff.
- Assists Human Resource Department with personnel issues with the clinical team.
- Attends, as necessary, weekly clinical meetings to address needs and concerns.
- Provides consultation services and objectively addresses situations.
- Provides crisis intervention services as needed.
- Plans and coordinates activities that promote effective management. Foster teamwork to improve communication and increase efficiencies within the unit and organization.
- Collaborates with Unit Managers, in the overall unit and staff management. This includes review and reinforcement of residential and client policies and rules.
- Monitors clinical hours and efficient allocation of clinical assignments at all facilities.
- Assists lead clinicians in securing coverage as needed, including management of vacation schedules.
- Ensures that weekly program schedules are following the requirements of insurance carriers.
- Oversees and promotes the inclusion of family members and loved ones in the client’s episode of care.
- Provides support to clinicians as needed with regard to including family and/or loved ones in treatment.
- Works with programming and wellness specialists on program development.
- Acts as a role model and demonstrates as well as monitors high ethical clinical standards.
- Protects patients’ rights by maintaining the confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Master’s degree in social work, limited psychologist, licensed counselor, or equivalent with appropriate licensure and/or certification with the State of Michigan.
- Minimum of two years of supervision experience, is required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Ability to assess the developmental level of the clinician and provide appropriate supervision, training, and coaching
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality on all client records and business-related records, as required under HIPAA guidelines.
- Expertise in the dynamics of addictions.
- Good communication and decision-making ability.
- Expertise in conflict resolution.
- Ability to be comfortable in an authority role.
- Knowledge of administrative and clinical policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of interpersonal dynamics and counseling theories.
- Ability to identify learning needs and styles of employees.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds.
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks such as typing for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to clearly express and exchange ideas by means of spoken words to impart oral information to employees or others accurately or quickly, engaging in sometimes lengthy conversations or presentations.
- Must be able to ascend and descend stairs daily.
- Must be able to seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with your hand or hands.
- Must be able to perceive sound by ear to interpret oral information from employees or others accurately or quickly.
- Work will be performed in an office environment with fluctuating temperatures.
