Manager Metallurgy is responsible for the integrity of products being shipped to our customer as it pertains to the material properties of the components that make up that product. SR. Manager Metallurgy is responsible for business process and product compliance, efficiency and waste elimination and customer satisfaction as it relates to product quality.
Job Description
Strategy and Development
•Collect, compile, and analyze relevant quality statistical data to obtain information regarding quality performance
•Supervise technicians, inspectors, and other company staff to ensure they perform their duties in line with established quality procedures
•Monitor product development processes to identify deviations from quality policies
•Conduct tests to verify the quality of raw materials and finished products
•Review existing process and product specification to identify the need for improvement or upgrade
General and Task Management
•Material Quality control - Receiving, change, deviation trials
•Metallurgy process ownership including special processes
•Chemical Management
•Thermal Treatment of materials to included atmosphere and non-atmosphere heat treatment.
•Induction heating and heat treat
•Development and control of process parameters.
•Process control, product inspection, maintenance direction, furnace safety check coordination, tooling (fixtures and inductors).
•Liaising with and supervising engineering and technical staff
•Ensure that plant is compliant both procedurally and document with to AIAG CQI-9 requirements
•Furnace temperatures, gas flows, atmosphere 3-gas analysis, carbon shim stock analysis and part metallurgical analysis are being performed daily with appropriate signoff.
•Developing new test/repair processes
•Gear shot peen control of directed shot peen, shot blast, grit sand other media surface blasting
•Equipment trouble shooting
•Welding, TIG, Laser, Friction, MIAB and resistance welding product inspection responsible.
•Process parameters and chemicals used for paint and anti-corrosion, coating and surface modifiers are controlled by metallurgy.
•Liaising with clients to determine and interpret design requirements
•Non-destructive testing systems will be developed, controlled, training, product analysis, qualifications PM and spare parts controlled by metallurgy.
•Washers and sediment testing are developed controlled, training, product analysis, qualifications PM and spare parts controlled by metallurgy.
•Providing technical advice about the suitability of metals for different purposes
•Making recommendations and advising about product feasibility
•Support quality, purchasing and product engineering
•Using specialist computer applications
•Carrying out laboratory based analysis of samples
•Using both destructive and non-destructive techniques to test composition
•Investigating production problems.
•Lead, direct, and support all aspects of laboratory test work
•Develop and manage metallurgical operations and work practices that maximize operational efficiencies
•Improve plant operating performance; reduce waste and delays; promote cost reductions; and achieve a high level of operating efficiency;
•Evaluate current and potential processing methods;
•Monitor and analyze key metallurgical performance indicators of process operations and recommend corrective actions to the operations team;
•Manage metallurgical and chemical engineering activities working with the operations team and external consultants.
•Create and distribute monthly metallurgical and engineering reports;
•Work within cross-functional teams and coach, mentor supervise and lead direct reports;
•Maintain a safe and efficient work environment
People Management
•Ensure the delivery of the People Strategy within area of accountability
•Manage, coach and develop a high performing manufacturing team that meets agreed objectives (PIPs) and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements
•Set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports
•Report on achievement of targets (labor, overhead and PIP's) and identify any actions required
•Manage and lead the team, ensuring adequate staffing levels, managing holiday allowances, recruitment, training, development, appraisal, attendance, disciplinary issues and daily supervision to maximize efficient productivity
•Motivate and coach the team to operational success
•Provide technical expertise to the team
•Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems
•Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviors expected of them
