Purpose: This position is responsible for the operation of the state trauma registry, including; monitoring data submission, quality, registry access, maintenance, interaction with partners and registry users to determine/refine data collection needs, technical inquiries related to the trauma registry, education and training, data analysis, report writing, data display, establishing and maintain additional databases, participation in research requests.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Manages the State of Michigan trauma registry users and data submissions, validity rules, updates to data dictionary
•Participates in registry training and education
•Abstracts necessary data and generates statistical reports
•Responds to technical inquiries regarding the registry
•Performs routine audits of registry to ensure data integrity and interfaces with software company to trouble shoot issues, remaining up to date on system upgrades etc.
•Considered state trauma registry content expert, represents the Trauma Section at meetings
•Participates in professional development to enhance skills and knowledge of subject matter
•Maintains a positive, strong, credible, professional and interpersonal relationship with all parties relevant to MPHI projects and represents the best interest of MPHI at all times.

Qualifications/Requirements:
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree; healthcare informatics, computer science, or related field preferred
Experience: 2-3 years of related database management experience in setting up, managing and interpreting database, strong analytical and interpersonal skills, solid understanding of hospital systems, trauma registry.
Important Skills and Characteristics:
•Experience in database management.
•Excellent attention to detail, strong verbal, written communication skills.
•Must have ability to understand results of data analysis and interpret and explain with visual representations of data for program application and reports.
•Understands data privacy and HIPAA requirements.
•Understanding of medical terminology and the healthcare industry.
•Good capacity for problem-solving.
•Ability to work productively in a fast-paced environment with multiple, competing deadlines.
•Ability to work well with minimal supervision.
•Strong working knowledge of MS Office software programs, proficient in Excel.
•Preferred- experience/education in statistics, programming, SAS, SQL.
•Preferred-familiar with the American College of Surgeon, Committee on Trauma Resource for the Optimal Care of the Injured Patient 2014
•Comfortable working with a range of professionals.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: The office for this position is located at Michigan Department of Health and Human Services the Bureau of EMS, Trauma and Preparedness in Lansing.Some travel for trainings and meetings will be required.
Responsibility for the Work of Others: lead some projects and serve as a team member on others
Impact on Projects, Services and Operations: The Operations Coordinator - State Trauma Database is responsible for the statutory required collection and repository of trauma data in the state. Trauma Designation criteria for trauma facilities is predicated on submission of data to the state, system performance improvement is based on the collection, tracking and trending of data. System performance improvement is predicated on data collection and analysis including registry metrics.
