It’s safe to say that RJ Stevenson’s interest in cars came naturally. His father worked for
General Motors as an electrical engineer, while his grandparents and uncles also worked for
GM.
It’s not surprising that the Stevenson family get-togethers involved talking about cars, and sparked RJ’s interest in cars when he was only 4-years-old. A
Detroit native, he started taking auto shop classes at
Romeo High School in his sophomore year and has never looked back. The path that led RJ to
Bill Marsh Buick GMC and involved a lot of stops along the way – all of them car-related. He received a job offer from a local auto shop after high school that “he couldn’t pass up,” and worked there while taking night classes at
Macomb Community College.
His obvious talent for working on cars, as well as the wealth of knowledge he accumulated while growing up, helped him to not only earn his Associates Degree from
Macomb CC, but also landed him an apprenticeship/internship at the proving grounds near his home. From there, RJ enrolled in the automotive program at
Ferris State (in 2008), went to work for
Ford as a service engineer, a role in which he solved problems that dealers couldn’t otherwise fix, and ultimately ended up at
Chrysler.
RJ worked as a
Chrysler Development Engineer in their fuel systems group and helped design new fuel system components before accepting an offer to work for a local supplier. RJ and his wife made their way to
Traverse City when she received a job offer at
Munson hospital. RJ was more than willing to leave an office job he didn’t enjoy and needed only two years to finish a senior
Master Technician program.
Today, RJ practices his trade as a technician at
Bill Marsh Ford Kalkaska and plans to do so until “his body won’t let him.” We hope that’s not for a long time!
