The Powertrain Hardware Electrical Engineer is responsible for working in a team environment including both FCA and our supplier to design, develop, verify, and release embedded automotive powertrain electronics for use on FCA vehicles. The primary components the candidate will be responsible for are Transmission, Driveline, or Hybrid controllers.
Responsibilities will include:
•Release component(s) into the FCA releasing system
•Develop module and test specifications
•Analyze failure mode effects
•Develop test and review circuit designs with our suppliers
•Participate in issue resolution activities during development, vehicle launch, and warranty periods
•Support efforts to incorporate module(s) into FCA vehicle electrical systems
•Work with suppliers on new module package designs to conform to FCA vehicle under-hood and interior environments
•Work with our suppliers to prototype possible cost saving or development issue solutions in hardware and/or software
•Work with the supplier to develop the module diagnostics
•Lead and participate in technical coordination meetings and trips to suppliers for component technical reviews
•Support the resolution of plant and field quality issue with our corporate supplier quality engineering team and purchasing team
•Work with internal FCA Driveline/Transmission/Hybrid department, Powertrain Controls, Powertrain systems, Transmission Management Systems, and EE Core groups in the gathering of module hardware requirements and resolving issues
Basic Qualifications:
•Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related engineering degree
•Experience developing electronic control modules
•Possess outstanding interpersonal and critical thinking skills
•Possess outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
Preferred Qualifications:
•Master of Science in Electrical Engineering degree
•3 years of experience with developing transmission control modules
•Experience with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
•Component releasing experience
•Familiarity with microcontroller design and embedded software design
•Understanding of the operation of transmission, hybrid, 4WD and AWD systems (mechanical and electrical)
