The Powertrain Core Electronics Product Development Engineer is responsible for working in a team environment, in conjunction with a supplier team, to design, develop, verify, and release embedded automotive powertrain electronics into FCA vehicles. Primary components are Engine (gas) and electric vehicle (xEV) electronic control modules.
Responsibilities Include:
•Gather and define control module system and input/output requirements
•Develop module performance specifications, system requirements, software interface requirements, FMEAs, test specifications and source packages
•Design and/or verify circuit designs
•Work with supplier on new module package designs to conform to FCA vehicle underhood and interior environments
•Lead/participate in teams to develop the required vehicle function control requirements that are incorporated into the controllers
•Prototype possible cost saving or development issue solutions in hardware and/or software in conjunction with supplier
•Lead/participate in technical coordination meetings and trips to supplier for component technical reviews
•Oversee and develop supplier’s solution into a viable manufacturable product
•Support activities with corporate supplier quality and purchasing areas
•Release component(s) into FCA releasing system
•Support effort to incorporate module(s) into FCA vehicle electrical systems
•Lead/participate in issue resolution activities during development, vehicle launch, and/or warranty periods
•Support corporate quality in the areas of vehicle development, assembly plant and field & warranty issue resolution
•Some travel, including international travel, may be required
Basic Qualifications:
•Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Systems, Applied Physics or related Engineering field from an accredited university
•Minimum of 3 years of electronic design engineering experience
•Must be a self-starter and possess outstanding interpersonal and critical thinking skills
•Ability to work in team environment, within FCA and with supplier teams
•Excellent communication skills
•Strong analytical and problem solving skills
•Ability to work independently
Preferred Qualifications:
•Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
•5 years with Electronic Module or Automotive Experience
•Component releasing experience
•Experience with electronic module design, specifically embedded electronics
•Powertrain subsystem or vehicle systems experience
•Thermal management, electronic packaging background for power electronics
•Familiarity with microcontroller design
•Familiarity/experience in specifying or designing control system algorithms for inclusion in purchased electronic controllers
•Familiarity/experience with embedded software design
