With an interest in cars from high school, the path towards becoming an accomplished technician here at
Bill Marsh was ultimately achieved through persistence during life's changes.
From
Elk Rapids, Craig Beaty's interest with cars started at 14 in
high school when he, his father and his brother restored a '69 AMC Rebel, a '72 Nova and a '58 Chevy Truck. Craig backpacked
Europe for a year before returning to
Michigan and attending
Northwestern Ohio for 1.5 years. A local repair shop owner convinced Craig to learn-by-fire and go to work starting out by changing oil, repairing tires, parts inventory and cleaning up the shop. During these 2 years, Craig moved into working on cars (maintenance-brakes) and getting
Michigan state certifications. Craig met a
Bill Marsh employee from
Elk Rapids during this time period who encouraged him apply at
Bill Marsh.
Craig got his first experience at
Bill Marsh in the express service department at
GM where he stayed for 1 year. As life changed, Craig's moved to
Grand Rapids in 1999 and went to work for Grand Oldsmobile. There, Craig both self-taught and then sought-out an
ASE Master Technician Certification. The store closed in 2006 and Craig moved to
Keller Ford for 2 years as a general technician. Craig moved back to northern Michigan and worked at
Paul's Auto & RV in
Kingsley.
In 2010, Craig came to work for
Bill Marsh Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Traverse City as a general technician. Around 2012,
Chrysler started mandating
Chrysler-specific training and that's when Craig dug in and became a Master Certified
Chrysler Technician in 2015. Craig is now the Shop Foreman which means that he has an interest in the shop's performance as-well as his own. Craig regularly mentor's other technicians who need assistance and keeps tabs on the shop from a customers perspective by looking at a Customer Satisfaction Index report.
Craig has become the star of the
Chrysler technicians. He has always felt the need to better both himself and his team to ultimately be the best. Craig currently resides in the Lake Ann area with his wife, Caitlin.
