Create a commercially practical, technically sufficient and economically sound design for an assigned product or unit based on predetermined mechanical characteristics. Responsible for performance requirements, weight and dimensional limits, determining the nature and working relationship of the various elements of design.
Duties and responsibilities:
•Responsible for the arrangement of mechanical details and preparing initial design layouts.
•Follow up and assist in the preparation of final layout and working drawings.
•Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
•Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
•Process customer orders.
Qualifications/Training:
•Experience with problem solving techniques (5 why & root cause analysis), and with statistical techniques and data analysis.
•Handle multiple projects at one time with conflicting time frames while managing internal and external resources to complete the project or task on time and within budget.
•Must be design-oriented and capable of performing in a production environment.
•Must be able to identify process deficiencies and develop solutions to improve those deficiencies.
•Must have excellent communication skills with ability to interface directly with hourly employees as well as management level of employee concerning manufacturing initiatives and progress updates.
•Must possess a high energy level with a strong work ethic.
•Good pc skills with knowledge of excel, word and outlook.
•Ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate simple instructions, short correspondence and memos in English.
•Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and layout and other written or verbal instructions presented in English.
•Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
Experience:
•Two (2) years’ experience in the specialty vehicle or truck chassis manufacturing field.
•Experience working with CAD, Pro/Engineer and MS Office Suite
Education:
•Preferred - B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering.
•Associates degree, with equivalent work experience.
