DEPARTMENT SUMMARY
Distribution Engineering Planning (DPE - Flint) (within Gas Asset Management) is responsible for managing the scoping, estimating and planning of gas projects and programs across the Genesee County Natural Gas Distribution Pipeline. The team provides support for a key component to deliver safe and reliable service to our customers.
JOB DESCRIPTION / RESPONSIBILITIES
•The Energy Delivery Gas Project Coordinator will be responsible for regional oversight of strategic business programs to ensure the optimal resource utilization and key customer service indexes are met for each program.
•The Gas Project Coordinator will be responsible for establishing strong working relationships with federal, state and municipal agencies in order to facilitate the construction and maintenance activities to keep the gas distribution system safe and reliable.
•The Gas Project Coordinator is also responsible for project development, scoping and the alignment of both internal and external resources of the most complex gas distribution projects to ensure project milestones are met.
•The Gas Project Coordinator is also individually responsible for the coordination of the most sensitive and strategic distribution projects. These projects can range in cost from a few hundred thousand to multi-millions.
•This is an essential role in evaluating alternatives and negotiating alternatives for the $125 million gas distribution system improvement budgets.
•The spend programs for projects that the Gas Project Coordinator has oversight of include but are not limited to: Asset Relocation - Decision Analysis Mains and Services, Asset Relocation - Non-Modeled, Material Condition - Company Initiated, Enhanced Infrastructure Replacement Program, Augment Supply, Compliance Base Distribution, MEDC and economic development requests and Large New Business (new business projects over $250,000 - direct spend).
• Proactively search for and identify future project work and connection opportunities to ensure Consumers Energy is at the forefront of project initiation and effectively partnering with stakeholders.
•The Gas Project Coordinator may be assigned specific strategic projects like participating in internal initiatives within Energy Delivery, partnering with MDOT or other agencies on pilot projects to ensure Consumers Energy's interests are included or assisting with the selection of new employees, and other similar assignments.
•This position is unique in that it requires the highest level of technical design skill to know and understand all options for design and construction on the gas distribution system, but also requires very high levels of political savvy, tact, customer communication and negotiation skills beyond a senior design technician.
•This role may perform "other duties" as assigned by Leadership to meet business needs.
•The qualified candidate will work as a Sr. Engineer Technical Analyst I (or above) on the Distribution Engineering Pipeline team.
•The primary responsibility will be coordinating with Municipalities, Third Party Contractors and customers to ensure safe construction, augmentation and operation of Consumers Energy gas distribution facilities.
•Work will also consist of coordination with Distribution Pipeline Engineering (DPE), Operations, Scheduling and other departments to ensure safe and proper project completion.
•Must have the ability to work with people at all levels in a team environment and capable of working through difficult issues, achieving positive outcomes, while maintaining and fostering sound working relationships.
•Capable of making independent judgments based on experience, generally accepted business practices, sound science, economics, and safety.
•Exceptional communication skills and be proficient with all forms of communication both written and verbal.
•Must possess high ethical standards and must follow and adhere to the CMS Energy Corporate Code of Conduct in all business matters.
•The candidate must be willing to travel within the State of Michigan, must demonstrate self-motivation and ability to motivate others, strong leadership; positive work ethics, work load flexibility, and be a problem solver.
•Ability to read and interpret emergency plan drawings. Familiarity with Michigan Gas Safety Code is a plus.
