I.F. Metalworks is looking for a 3D Designer and Programmer who specializes in Press Brake, Laser, Waterjet, and Fabrication fields for the Architectural/Structural Industry in Roseville, Michigan. Our Client, the Employer, needs a 3D Designer and Programmer with experience using computers to generate sketches of complex undertakings. Using these designs, they can help establish timelines, budgets, and assist many different departments in making vital decisions about major projects.
These designs may be used to create 2D images, a process known as surface modeling, or 3D images, or solid modeling. CAD Designers must have strong computer skills, extensive knowledge of and experience in design software, strong communication, and the wherewithal to succeed in their industry which will require knowledge of machines, engineering standards, mathematics, and the materials used to make their plans a reality.
The Ideal Candidate Will Be Asked To…
- Generate files for waterjet, CNC, Laser, (including tube laser), 3D printing, and press brake. Training on machine-specific programming software can be provided if the candidate has strong 3D drafting skills.
- Prepare architectural and industrial metal components in 2D drawings/3D models in AutoCAD/Inventor for submittal and shop fabrication; for products ranging from Aerospace tooling to Architectural Metalwork (railings, stairs, canopies, decorative custom metalwork, etc.).
- Be responsible for checking over their own work for quality control before supervisor review.
- Use customer-provided technical drawings as well as architectural and structural drawings or customer sketches to find pertinent data for final design, make note of design discrepancies, and note where design clarity is required.
- Become familiar with shop design and fabrication standards and implement them into their work.
- Generate material orders and cut sheets.
- Ask for input from supervisors to keep job moving.
- Estimate time to complete tasks and meet demanding project deadlines.
- Participate in daily progress and priority meetings with supervisors.

- 3D Drafting, preferably in AutoDesk Inventor.
- Designing custom components
- Reviewing customer technical drawings as well as architectural and structural construction drawing sets for pertinent design info.
- Reviewing other subcontractors design and shop drawings for coordination (millwork, elevator, structural steel).

Qualifications:
- 3 years minimum job experience in commercial and/or residential design.

- Proficiency in AutoCAD (required).
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (required).
- Experience with Press Brake Setup (preferred).
- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) (preferred).
- Experience with 3D scan data and point cloud experience (for future scanning capabilities).
- Any Experience with CNC Programming (MasterCAM) or Machining is a plus.
