The machine builder is responsible for fitting and assembling components according to assembly drawings, manuals, engineering memos, sketches and/or knowledge of machine construction. This position requires a strong technical ability and is for a motivated individual who enjoys a variety of responsibility.
Primary Functions and Responsibilities
- Verifies conformance of parts to bill of material and drawings, using measuring instruments, such as calipers, gauges, and micrometers
- Machine assembly from bill of material and drawings
- Assembling pneumatic and hydraulic circuits from drawings
- Electrical wiring
- Machining
- Machine start-up and packaging
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read mechanical, electrical and pneumatic drawings
- MS Office capability
- Mechanical Skills: hand tools
- Basic math skills: ratios, weights, metric system
- Machining skills: lathe, mill, cutting tools
- Organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
- Capable of reading measuring devices and drawings
- Understanding and communicating technical details
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision
Special Position Requirements
Requires excellent problem solving skills, with the ability to find ways to work under pressure and still make deadlines without cutting corners or endangering the integrity of the equipment and/or the employer as a whole. Willingness to participate in internal training to expand chemical background. Requires ability to interact professionally with other departments, customers and suppliers.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of basic mechanical and machining skills. Minimum of two years prior experience in a similar environment.
Physical Demands
The position involves reading, writing, mathematics and measuring. Operating a fork lift truck may be necessary, training provided. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment
Working on a manufacturing floor, which could involve exposure to hazards. Willingness to work flexible and sometimes long hours.
