Program Coordinator
Position Summary
The Visiting International Professional Program (VIPP) within International Studies and Programs (ISP) in Michigan State University is recognized as the world leader in providing professional training programs and exchange opportunities to international students, scholars and professionals from diverse backgrounds to meet personal and organizational development needs. The program manager/director assumes primary responsibility for program research, design and coordination for groups of international visitors and/or individuals. The program coordinator is responsible for managing open-enrollment long-term programs and advising participants on visa and program requirements from the application stage to arrival and duration of the program. Academic instruction, advising and support to international participants are key parts of the job. The program coordinator shall work with relevant MSU colleges, offices as well as relevant organizations in Michigan from both public and private sectors to deliver the training programs and coordinate all programmatic matters.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities [80%]:
Program Research (20%)

Carry out research in international and cross culture education and training including K-12 and university teacher’s development and provide evidence-based information to shape VIPP teaching and learning program.

Research and survey education and training programs needs among VIPP alumni, university and enterprise partners and funding agencies with a focus on China market.

Identify, analyze and summarize academic and professional resources for VIPP training program, which may include subject expertise within MSU and beyond, local schools, government offices, NGOs and industrial expertise.
Program Development & Management (30%)

Develop short-term intensive workshop proposals to meet sponsor requirements, which include fee-for-service program and U.S. federal agency funded program.

Identify and secure MSU collaborating units and individual faculty members for programming by various outreach and networking activities.

Actively pursue new programming opportunities to increase VIPP program enrollment by working with current participants, alumni and their sponsors.

Work closely with the Director and Fiscal Officer on budgets (budgets setting, expenditure review and analysis) to ensure financial viability of all programs.

Provide support, as needed, with all programming in VIPP.
Instruction, Advising and Support (30%)

Deliver instruction on education inquiry, teacher’s professional development, and education theories on learning and teaching.

Provide detailed consultation to new applicants and guide their application process.

Prepare all required documents at a high standard and share with VIPP and OISS for admission and visa application purposes. Keep all participant documents up to date on the shared drive

Provide comprehensive participant advising and support with topics such as program and course selection, academic resources, study and research skills, cultural and social activities, housing, health insurance, etc.

Facilitate academic discussions through academic forums, guest lectures, study groups, reflections and relevant field trips.

Provide initial settlement service, orientation and ongoing learning and living support by liaising with OISS, housing office, and relevant MSU academic units, etc. to ensure participants’ positive experience and satisfaction

Meet with participants on a regular basis to monitor study progress and ensure participants’ success.
Secondary Functions [20%]:
Communication and Outreach (10%)

Support the VIPP Communication team to generate, circulate and promote VIPP program information, news, achievements and other relevant material, especially in Chinese

Support VIPP marketing and recruitment efforts especially in China

Maintain regular effective communication with Chinese alumni and MSU partners.
Functional Support (5%)

Provide leadership and coordination of one or more strategic priority areas/functions within VIPP (e.g., Diverse value-add programming, 360-degrees service, and effective marketing and communication)
Professional Development (5%)

Continue developing professional skills by actively looking for opportunity; it may include taking relevant MSU offered training, taking online courses, attending relevant conferences necessary/appropriate/fiscally feasible

Contribute to the field of international professional training and development, which may include producing scholarly publications/blog, conducting outcomes assessment research, etc.
