Job Description / Responsibilities
The Lead Control Room Operator is responsible for:
•Directing the operation of major plant equipment and recordkeeping duties to ensure efficient and safe plant operations within established procedures and parameters.
•Directing Plant Operators to support efficient plant operation.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Monitors the operation of major plant equipment and systems and takes appropriate action to ensure they are operated safely, in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements according to the Emissions Minimization Plan, in a manner consistent with maximizing availability and in a manner consistent with optimizing fuel efficiency.
•Operates assigned control systems including distributed control, water, steam, combustion, turbine generator and related components in a safe and efficient manner.
•Directs the activities of the Plant Operators and Fuel Supply Operators as necessary to support the overall plant operation.
•Coordinates and may direct activities of other work groups as necessary to support overall plant operations.
•Maintains a log of significant operating activities and events.
•Logs significant plant parameters as determined by plant management.
•Answers the telephone when necessary in a professional manner and serves as a focal point for communications during emergency situations.
•Directs and ensures completion of required safety procedures; (e.g., tagout, confined space, hot work).
•Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
•Performs those typical duties of the Plant Operator and Fuel Supply Operator as required.
•Takes measurements and readings and compares with standards; implements corrective actions within established procedures.
•Assists in maintaining the boiler system by adding/transferring chemicals as needed to maintain desired parameters.
•Identifies and corrects problems; reports problems requiring further action to the Operations Manager.
•Responds to alarms in a timely manner; operates necessary equipment to effectively respond to critical situations.
•Oversees the work of sub-contractors on assigned shift, as necessary.
•Performs other comparable non-operating duties during plant shutdowns.
•Trains plant personnel in accordance with Company policies and government regulations.
•Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the CEM system and plant emissions.
•Performs regulatory reporting, according to established procedures, during emergency situations (e.g., fire / spill reporting).
•Performs other similar and related work.
Requirements / Qualifications
•High School Diploma OR GED is required.
•3+ years of experience as a Power Plant Control Room Operator.
•Meets all qualifications of the Plant Operator position which are incorporated into this job description.
•Possesses ability to read and understand moderately complex logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and wiring schematics.
The following skills and abilities may set you apart from others:
•Previous experience as a Biomass (Wood) Fuel Supply Operator.
•Previous experience as a Shift Supervisor.
•Ability to use analytical judgment to plan and perform diversified work, making decisions within prescribed limitations.
•Ability to provide clear direction and performance feedback to Plant Operators, as well as, take direction from and effectively work with other plant personnel.
Hours and Travel
•Ability to work overtime, as well as any shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
•Ability to work prolonged, irregular working hours.
