Peter-Lacke USA is seeking a highly-motivated, analytically skilled individual to fill the position of Purchasing Manager. In addition to a minimum of 5 years of advanced purchasing experience, the ideal candidates will have a strong employment background, which demonstrates stability and commitment to their former employers.
The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for procurement and price negotiation of raw materials (chemicals/hazmat), scheduling and timeliness of all inbound deliveries, material planning/forecasting, planned inventory objections. The Purchasing Manager will also determine and schedule optimal transportation modes for domestic and overseas hazardous materials daily. This individual will work to develop, define and implement inventory control strategies to achieve both customer and internal requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Procure all manufacturing materials (chemicals/hazmat), shipping & packaging supplies, office and facility supplies, while ensuring highest quality, company cost objectives and delivery needs are met.
- Establish and maintain a working knowledge of forecasting methods and processes.
- Plan all purchased and manufactured materials utilizing the best ordering approach. EOQ, min/max, fixed days, MRP, etc.
- Ensure accurate planning parameters are set in MRP system.
- Assistance with scheduling manufacturing orders to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Close collaboration with manufacturing and customer service departments to align priorities in order to meet customer requirements.
- Keep management proactively informed of procurement challenges and issues.
- Utilize the MRP system to create the buying plan, regulate safety stocks, recommend expedites and de-expedites in order to meet demand while maintaining optimum inventory levels.
- Proactively communicate supply shortages to appropriate personnel.
- Follow up with suppliers as necessary, to resolve delivery problems, cost changes, or quality issues.
- Responsible for ensuring the overall process is cost effective.
- Manage inventory to ensure all objectives are met and in line with company objectives.
- Prepare Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) in accordance with standards.
- Provide recommendations for improvements and assist with policies and procedures as required during start-up phase.
- Work with freight carriers and brokers on scheduling inbound deliveries and help prepare BOL, import/export or any other documentation as needed. Track and monitor deliveries; work with carriers and brokers as needed to ensure no delays.
- Negotiate delivery rates with freight carriers to ensure optimal cost objectives are met.
- Provide supplier ratings and monitor actions for improvements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree and/or equivalent work experience with a minimum of 5+ years in purchasing/material planning, logistics and imports/exports, inclusive of chemicals and/or other hazardous materials. Experience in the automotive coatings or related industry strongly preferred.
- DOT HAZMAT training certification preferred.
- Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-starter with ability to work effectively under fast-paced, time sensitive environment with shifting priorities.
- Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to present recommendations and summarize issues. Must have proven skills to problem solve.
- Intermediate to advanced experience level in MRP systems and MS Office with a strong emphasis on Excel.
- Ability to recognize basic cost savings opportunities and recommend to the appropriate personnel.
- Strong negotiation skills.
