Summary
Under general supervision, the Generating Plant Electrician, will direct up to six employees and perform such duties as:
•Performing associated administrative work to complete any given job including but not limited to:
•Full scope job planning, procedure changes, updating electrical drawings, request for material and job setup, including administrative requirements per generation site procedures
•Contact vendors for the purpose of securing or giving of routine information in the field of electrical and electronic equipment
•Performing toxin checks when required
•Receiving worker's protective tagging
•Calibration of electrical and electronic control devices
•Inspecting, installing, troubleshooting and repairing the most complex electrical apparatus and systems in and around the plant, adjacent substations, and in the coal yards
•Inspecting, installing, troubleshooting and repairing air conditioning and HVAC control systems and associated equipment
•Inspecting, installing, troubleshooting and repairing communication wiring systems
•Inspecting, installing, troubleshooting and repairing fiber optics
•Inspecting, installing, troubleshooting and repairing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's) and the systems they control
•Install or remove small amounts of insulation including Class III and Class IV asbestos work in conjunction with performing their duties
•Simple alignment of rotating electrical equipment
•General acetylene and arc welding
•Must be willing to travel to other generating plants to perform work
•Must be willing to train other employees
•Perform other similar and related work
Requirements
•High School diploma or GED
•4 or more years of experience in related work or equivalent ability to perform the job
The following skills and experience will set you apart from others:
•Successfully complete the Generating Plant Electrician training program
•Ability to attain air conditioning refrigerant federal certification
•Practical working knowledge of complex electrical and mechanical apparatus of switchboards and of machine shop tools and practices.
•Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code
•Familiar with the use and application of protective apparatus for working on or near energized conductors.
•Ability to read, interpret and understand all wiring diagrams and prints for all electrical apparatus in and around the plant or adjacent substations and coal yards.
•Thorough working knowledge of the operation and construction of electrical and mechanical apparatus, the application of insulation and the principles involved in control circuits, relays and electronic components
•The aptitude and demonstrated ability in the use of computers to perform the duties of a Generating Plant Electrician (i.e., PLC's, laptop, desktop and hand held)
•Practical working knowledge of complex electrical and mechanical apparatus of switchboards
•Ability to read, interpret and understand all wiring diagrams and prints for all electrical apparatus in and around the plant or adjacent substations and coal yards
Hours and Travel
