Overview:
AVL Powertrain Engineering, Inc. has a need in the heavy duty engineering sector for a Director of Business Development. This position is located in Plymouth, MI with potential travel up to 40%. The Director of Business Development will be responsible for market development through the acquisition of customer projects in the heavy duty sector. In addition, this position will set up long-term business relations with the customer. Qualified candidates should possess at least 7 years of applicable experience, excellent communication skills and customer relations skills. This position will be heavily involved in strategic planning, competitive intelligence and should be a driver in the development of lean engineering processes and continuous improvement. Powertrain engineering and electrification skills are preferred. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Employer will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.
Your Responsibilities:
- Creates business plans for the sales area.
- Coordinates middle and long term planning based on market potential with the President,
- PEI and Technical Director.
- Implements the presales process.
- Implements the sales process with support from the future project manager and the Technical Director.
- Develops customer profiles and applies the principle of strategic selling.
- Obtains customer feedback.
- Maintains customer care during project run time.
- Updates business figures (order receipt, sales) and carries out target – actual comparisons.
- Works out and executes fiscal counter-measures in the case of deviations.
- Creates offers and makes consistent follow-ups.
- Supplies input to PMT and strategy team with respect to marketing targets (markets, customers, products and competitors).
- Establishes, cultivates and expands positive customer relations.
- Achieves targeted guidelines for sales, orders received and planned contribution margin.
- Submits offers according to guidelines.
- Conducts internal audits, as requested.
Your Profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related
- Master’s degree preferred
- 7+ years’ experience in related field
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated competence in communications and problem solving.
- Demonstrated ability to execute business plans effectively.
