Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Heavy Equipment Supervisor, maintain and operate heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, rollers, telehandler and wheel loaders to complete the job duties listed below for the casino and resort complex, Tribal Operations and Tribal Member work request program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain the heavy equipment vehicles and equipment.
- Utilize heavy equipment to transport products to job sites such as dirt, stone, mulch, gravel, scrap metal and sand.
- Operate telehandler to load and unload material deliveries and outdoor concert operations support.
- Remove and install driving surface materials such as concrete, asphalt and curbing.
- Complete repairs and installation of utility infrastructure such as storm drains, water, electrical, sanitary sewer and fiber.
- Work with Facilities Grounds division for tasks, including: tree removal and planting, material deliveries such as mulch, irrigation repair trenching, and snow removal.
- Maintain parking lots by sweeping, salting and snow removal.
- Set and follow grade, use transit and laser level for proper fall and runoff.
- Complete general equipment preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment.
- Perform minor welding and fabrication of various equipment and repair requests.
- Practice SECR Hospitality Rules with every internal and external guest.
- Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:
- Contact with Facilities Supervisors and managers regarding needed repairs on the property and coordination of snow removal operations. Coordinates snow removal operations with the Security department and Hotel Valet.
- Contact with guests to ensure their experience is positive and upholds the service excellence standards of the Casino and Resort.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Three years heavy equipment operator experience with various equipment.
- Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
License, Certification, or Special Requirements:
- Must have a Class A State of Michigan CDL.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Driver’s License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.
- Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of hazards and applicable safety rules and regulations of heavy equipment operations.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local transportation safety codes in regard to proper flagging, towing procedures, height, weight, and width of the load.
- Knowledge of the methods and techniques of road construction and maintenance work, including an in-depth knowledge of a variety of soil compositions and properties due to the increased complexity associated with operating equipment on all types of terrain.
- Skill in the operation of various vehicles ranging from one-ton trucks to tractor-trailer rigs with various speed and gear ranges.
- Skill in the operating procedures of a variety of heavy duty equipment including scraper, front end loader, dozer, grader, backhoe, crack sealer, paint stripper, smooth drum and pneumatic roller, sweepers, as well as the purposes and limitations of a greater variety of attachments.
- Ability to determine proper vehicle to accomplish various jobs considering such factors such as size, weight, road conditions and distance.
- Ability to anticipate, recognizes and evaluate hazardous conditions, as well as develop hazard and safety control methods.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
- Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.

Physical Demands:
- Strenuous physical exertion in climbing ladders and lifting heavy objects.
- Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with repair equipment.
- Required to stand and walk for extended periods of time and reach with arms and hands.
- Occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, climb, balance, crouch or crawl.
- Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
- Indoors and outdoors.
- Must possess sufficient stamina to work under all types of weather conditions including extreme hot/cold and to lift, carry, push, or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials.
- Work involves moderate risks or discomforts which may require special safety precautions, especially working around heavy equipment e.g. working around moving parts or machines and with irritant chemicals.
- Work is performed in noise, dirt, wet, and hot enclosed spaces and heights.
- Extended hours and irregular shifts required.
- Evening, overnight, holiday and/or weekend work may be required.
- Travel may be required.
