Position Summary
Transitions and Transfer Student Success (TTSS) is an innovative and collaborative organization of experts driving Michigan State University to continually improve the services, practices, and activities for holistic student success. Our Unit supports Spartan students in pursuing their academic goals as they transition to collegiate life. We are housed within the Neighborhood Student Success Collaborative (NSSC). NSSC promotes academic proficiency, institutional navigation, and socio-emotional engagement to promote student success. Our unit is committed to empowering undergraduate students to pursue knowledge, access resources, and develop skills needed for success. Our goals align with the broader institutional goals of closing opportunity gaps for underserved (first-generation, low-income, Black, Latinx, and/or Native American/Indigenous) students by increasing persistence, retention, and graduation rates, and decreasing time to degree. Housed in the Office of the Provost, the unit reports to the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education (APUE).
The Neighborhood Student Success Collaborative (NSSC) is seeking excellent candidates for the New Student Orientation Coordinator position. Reporting to the Director of New Student Orientation, the primary purpose of this position is to lead the development of programming to support New Student Orientation. This includes but is not limited to event planning and coordination of programs, coordinating marketing, branding, and communication needs, serving as a point of contact for inquiries regarding New Student Orientation, and collaborating with units/programs across campus. In alignment with MSU’s strategic plan to increase the 6-year graduation rate to 86%, this multifaceted subunit is responsible for creating and implementing identity-conscious student success strategies aimed at closing opportunity gaps and coordinating academic support services across campus.

Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the planning, management, implementation, and assessment of the programming for New Student Orientation. Develop learning outcomes and assessment strategies for each programming effort that aligns with program and unit goals; monitor, analyze, and report learning outcomes assessment results from programming efforts.. Support the Director of New Student Orientation with daily operations and New Student Orientation initiatives

Collaborate and coordinate with units/programs across campus including staff and other University programs to ensure student success. Coordinate marketing, branding and communication efforts to meet programming and student needs

Serve on relevant NSSC and campus committees. Other duties as assigned.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Educational Theory and Methodology and/or a specialization in the designated area of expertise; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in planning and overseeing seminars and conferences including public relations, organizing and disseminating training materials and information both written and web-based; budget and records maintenance and computer support; experience in supervision, database, spreadsheet, word processing, desktop publishing, knowledge of HTML programming and web site development and management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Master’s degree or evidence of advanced work leading to a master''s in higher education, student affairs, social work, or other related fields.
The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of experience within a college or university setting; knowledge of undergraduate student success concepts, theories and/or practice; and working with undergraduate students. Equity, diversity, and inclusion lens with an emphasis on issues in closing gaps in access for minoritized student populations. Knowledge of best practices around incoming student access and success. Event planning and student programming skills with experience utilizing learning outcomes assessment to analyze and improve. Strong data management and organizational skills.
Experience with student support systems; experience in higher education and strong communication skills. Demonstrated competency in workplace technologies
