Job Summary: Plans, performs, and manages new lighting projects in accordance with the development schedule and budget established by the customer through the development of strategies, review and/or modification of project plans, and providing/reviewing design direction.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plans, performs, and manages the design, development, and transfer to manufacturing of new programs from information provided by the customer — may require development of several concepts to achieve a final design direction
- Investigates and procures all data required to develop designs, and uses best combination of preliminary information and contributing data to develop final designs
- Develops complete design, which includes layouts with background information, detail drawings, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in accordance with SAE, MVSS1 08, EEC, ECE, customer, and technical requirements
- Establishes and maintains DFMEA’s, DVP’s and design micro-schedules as required per company policies and procedures
- Ensures product launch team meets design and development timing schedule, and prepares a monthly status report on designs, open issues, concerns, and/or problems regarding all assigned programs
- Reviews all product drawings with designers and product launch team to ensure that all processes and tolerances are correct and achievable, manufacturing can process and build production design, and all customer requirements can still be met, including GD&T and SPC
- Reviews drawings prior to going into checking department to ensure that drawings are complete and design intent is clearly represented
- Oversees the release of CAD model and drawings to the customer system, and ensures that the data release is achieved in an accurate and timely manner
- Leads and/or participates in Design Review meetings for assigned projects — scheduled as needed
- Works with the Engineering Analysis group to ensure that all aspects of design development have been reviewed and approved to meet all customer, company, and legal requirements

- Maintains open communication with product launch team members to exchange information to enhance the development of a design and to serve as technical liaison on all assigned projects
- Maintains open communication with prototype shops, production shops, suppliers, and customers on any issues throughout the development of a design
- Performs as a “working leader”, and mentors the Design Engineering Staff and designers as may be required, to assure that they have the skills and knowledge to perform their tasks 19. Assists the Manager or Supervisor - Design Engineering (as may be requested) in the daily function of the department, and acts on their behalf in their absence.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related discipline
- 5+ years of engineering experience within the automotive industry Experience with an automotive lighting manufacturer, or in the design of plastic parts is preferred
- Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
- Knowledge and understanding of plastic injected molded components and their associated tooling
- Ability to organize, plan, and handle multiple priorities
