Job Summary:
The Clinical Nurse Manager is a registered, professional nurse who supervises and directs the nursing care of the OB/GYN Department according to the policies, procedures, philosophy and strategic goals of the organization. The Clinical Nurse Manager provides leadership, clinical expertise and operational direction on a daily basis to the direct care staff to achieve efficient, quality, patient focused care in a professional, service excellence environment. The Clinical Nurse Manager will engage the Staff through the utilization of staff empowerment. At times this position will support the staff by participating in direct patient care.
Essential Functions:
Supervises and supports the effective daily operations of the OB/GYN Department, to include staffing, patient flow, issues resolution, and efficient use of resources.
Collaborates with and empowers staff in the development and implementation of performance initiatives and monitoring of related outcomes aimed at improving quality, patient safety, service care, efficiency and cost effectiveness and supporting employee satisfaction.
Participates in the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of department goals.
Participates in annual budget development and monitoring of financial parameters.
Manages staffing per established staffing matrixes
Ensures inventory of supplies and equipment are maintained at levels that meet the patients and staff’s needs.
Manages employees to include recruiting, interviewing, discipline, staffing, schedules, staff concerns resolution, staff recognition, competency requirements and performance appraisals.
Collaborates with Supervisor and Clinical Nurse Specialists on needs assessment and development of educational efforts to maintain competency of staff.
Monitors Service Care initiatives and participates in the development and implementation of new initiatives as outcomes require. Resolves service care issues for physicians, patients and families.
Participates with the development of performance improvement plans, data collection and monitoring.
Has knowledge of policies, procedures, clinical guideline and ensures departmental
Compliance
Collaborates with Supervisor on Staff meeting agendas and co-chairs staff meetings
Investigates and reports risk management events and ensures appropriate paperwork and follow up is completed timely.
Works closely and openly communicates with other organizational leaders to maintain quality patient care and safety throughout the facility.
Assures that the Department meet all local, state, and federal regulatory guidelines, to include JCAHO, State and Medicare requirements.
Contributes to the organizational community relations.
Serves as a role model of professionalism and Service Care Standards
At times this position will support the department by participating in direct patient care.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Develops, implements and monitors new initiatives to improve and enhance OB/GYN services based on evidence based research and best practice in conjunction with the Women’s Health business plan. This includes building a functional, professional relationship with all stakeholders, to ensure positive outcomes.
• Additional duties and tasks as assigned by direct Supervisor.
Qualifications:
Current WI RN license, BSN preferred. 3-5 years experience in OB/GYN, with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills. American Heart Association BCLS required. Completion of Neonatal Resuscitation Program within 3 months of hire. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have strong critical thinking and process management skills. Ability to multitask and prioritize. Ability to maintain high energy working under stress and exhibit emotional maturity, stability and flexibility.
